Now I have made a few videos on camtasia, added some captions and audio, but I know basically nothing about the program or video editting aside from that. I have a home video taken on my digital camera and I edited it in camstasia and saved as .avi as it was saved as that before I took it into camtasia. I tried uploading it to youtube but videos cannot exceed 100 megabytes. My video is 228 megabytes, and it is only 1:48. So I was just wondering/guessing whether .avi was my best choice. What should I save my movie as, or is there a way to compress it?

    Don't use stand alone compressors.

Either import the .avi back into Camtasia or into Windows Movie Maker and turn it into a .wmv.

Your file size will decrease like crazy.

Yes, I believe .wmv is the lowest. Maybe try uploading on other sites, if thats your option there are several sites that allow a few GB movies to be uploaded, just search google. You could also turn it in to a two, three, or even four part movie.
