Even tho speedtest.net says i have 450kbps upload speed, my uploads are 50-60kbps... why is that? any way to fix it? I have cable currently
i forget why but i have read in multiple places that you take the 450 and divide it by 8 to get you actual upload speed, its got sumthing to do with the KB's not being the same thing..
ah What mmost people get confused with is this ... kb and kbytes are different What ISP say is ... 500kbps - The kb stands for kilobits & divide this by 10 gives you kilobytes which most speeds are measured by when uploading and downloading For example ... Your speed from ISP is 400kbps = 40kbytes per second and you are uploading at 50/60kbytes per sec that means you are going faster than what you are getting I hope that clears that situation up DARKSTAR
lol ye Most think you are getting 500 as in download/upload speed but you are not They are just using a lower display format for the kbits and kbytes lol - Lucky they are not using the lowest format ie bits haha So the higher the number the better, which is true but just have to see what you are getting and not get confused DARKSTAR
ah,thanks. My download speed is 10,000kbps and i download at about 200-1000 depending at sites. like rapdishare 1000 is that good?
My Plan says I DL at 1500kbps and I download at 150k/s. Just divide by 10 and you have your download speed. I think it works the same for upload.
there is 8 bits in a byte almost everything is around 8s from most things i study in class but i dont like messing with the networking.
It also depends on the site's server your downloading from. I see you mention rapidshare, you will get much faster speeds if there are less people on the server say 100, than if there are 5,000. And this is for obvious reasons.
It is supposed to be divided by 8, but due to lost packets, and the lag, it's actually closer if you divide by 10.
