So I should go with the 320MB or the 640MB for the card?

What about the sound card? Do I need to buy that?

    Thanks.

Hi all, well you got a low budget for a good pc eh?
Why every one is talking about models????
You can also assemble one if u'll like. Its easy, cheap and ur pc will be powerful.
    Suggestion:

    Asus motherboard supporting quad core
    Kingston RAM,:2GB
    Mouse: microsoft handshake mouse
    Monitor: Dell, 20 inch
    Graphic card:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

    Cheers

    i loled.

    ---------------------
shock3d you will be fine with the 320mb version of that card and also unless you are like a sound nut you should be good with the onboard sound (check reviews of the board to see what its like)

what's so funny? Other than Kingston using cheap quality ICs his advice is relatively solid. I personally don't really bother with ASUS as I don't' see their price premium as being justifiable when there's no real difference in quality.

    ahhh missed that.

I highly suggest an early 1.8Ghz northwood revision of the Celeron D.

We aren't suggesting 'models', or manufacturer PCs as I assume you mean. We are giving him builds to buy parts and assemble it himself...
You'd probably find your build... inoperable without a processor, eh? You can have a motherboard that supports a 14-core processor, but without one, you're kind of screwed.
And... you're kind of missing a few other parts he might need for his computer to actually do something more then post...

Almost every board supports quadcore nowdaways, but the processors are really expensive now ($999,- for the cheapest one, if I renember)

You'd better go with the 320MB version as there is almost NO difference and you will not be able to notice the real life difference anyway. E6600 and 88GTS 320Mb, just like they said. I also would get a 680i board, so you can do SLi later. I know you can also SLi on 965P and 975x, but you'll loose much bandwidth, especially on 965P. Its not the x4 limited width, but the link where the two x16's are connected is ----ty.

I've read a review about the Ultra 120 with a (I think scythe) S-Flex fan, where he was better then both Infinity and Tuniq120. If you stay at stock you don't have use the fan, but you'd have good airflow in your case.

I'd go with johns build, but then with a E6600 instead of E6400, 88GTS 320Mb instead of 640MB. If you go with his choiche motherboard, then get a DS3 instead, overclocks much better.

    Or if you want SLi later;

    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...anufacture=eVGA

Memory, I'd try to get a Buffalo Pc8000 kit, it uses D9GKX, if that doesn't TG xtreem. The Buffalo kit is also not xtremely expensive.

For the rest it seems okay to me. I'd try to find a review on each part and then decide if it's any good.

I don't think the DS-3 OCs better. You should see some of the FSBs people are reaching with the AB --- on oc net.

But yeah, I'd actually suggest the evga 680i motherboard.

I had two questions regarding this build: (They are both pretty much noob questions; sorry)

    1) What's SLI?
    2) The optical drive, it's a DVD Burner, right? Don't I need something else as well? Like a CD reader/writer? And, a DVD reader/writer/buner? Like to copy/copy as in "back-up" CD's.

I think I'll go with the RAM xelink suggestd since it's from ncix.com and I can't seem to find Buffalo by Devastation.

The graphics card is gonna be 340MB and I'll go with the e6600. Although, I'm still a little itchy on the power supply. Is it really enough to power 8800 and everything? Like, if I wanted to buy another card or add another HD in, will it still be powerful enough to take it? If it is, then I'll go with what john suggested

And I'll go with the eVGA 680i for the motherboard.

To oasis: Yeah, I just need it for music and games. Not really a sound nut lol.

Thanks for all the help. +Rep for all who helped.

As far as I know, a 400Watt minimum is recommended, and a PSU with 25Amps on its 12V rail is minimum recommended... this PSU has 600W and 55A combined.

    SLi: http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_learn.html

    the DVD drive does everything.

actually there is a tangible diference between the 640mb version and the 320mb version.

past video cards like the 7900 series and the x1900 series had a sweet spot of around 256-512MB. The 8800s are quite literally TWICE AS POWERFUL. They like to have more RAM.

now, if you're playing at 1280*1024, you won't have any problems, but for higher resolutions like 1680*1050 1600*1200 and higher, you start to get a little low on memory.

This primarily applies on higher AA levels though, according to one review I read, a mildly OCed 8800GTS 320mb was almost always slightly behind a stock 8800 w/640mb RAM when AA is pushed up, with the 640 version being able to run 4X AA while the 320 was only able to do 2xAA.

again if you're playing at 1280*1024, it won't matter much though.

    To john:

Well if you say 600W is enough, I'll stick with that then. Also, for the DVD drive, how would you back-up CD's? Like the way I do it now, is the original on top CD drive and the blank on bottom. Is there another way that's done by that DVD drive that you suggested? (noob question; but I wanted to make it clear before I get it.) Thanks.

    To xelink:

Yeah, I think I'll only go with 1280 x 1024 anyways. Thanks for the info.
