Hey, I need a computer build for myself. I basically need everything and I really mean everything. I don't know much about computer hardware so I need you guys to get everything if at all possible.

Last time, it was for my friend. But now, it's for me.

My budget is around $1,700 Canadian.

I'm gonna be using it for gaming, internet, video encoding/editing, photoshop, rendering (all that stuff); so, I need a powerful comp.

I'd like you guys to make one for me and please if possible, let it be from tigerdirect.

    Thanks a lot; appreciated.

Ahh, sorry to hear that. It happens to me too.

Well actually, I have a case, monitor and a mouse. I should've mentioned that. My bad.

What I meant was optical drives, sound card, the fan, etc.

    Thanks.

gtfo alienwares are garbage, build your own and u can build a system 3x better then what u would pay for an alienware.

Alienware is highly expensive. And on this one, I agree with oasis.

So, can anyone help me out?

    Thanks.

All right, well it seems you have a bit of money to spend. Lemme see if I can throw together a good build:

    Processor- $300
    Intel Core 2 Duo E'6400
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...nufacture=Intel

    Motherboard- $185
    Abit AB9 --- P965
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...anufacture=ABit

    Memory: $280
    Team Xtreme 2x 1GB DDR2-800
    http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-44410-800mhz-...cec4e4a1685275a

    Video Card: $464
    eVGA 8800GTS
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...anufacture=eVGA

    Hard Drive: $123
    Seagate Barracuda 320GB
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...facture=Seagate

    CD/DVD: $47
    NEC CD/DVD R+RW
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...lay%20Solutions

    Heatsink: $61
    Scythe Infinity HS&F
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...ufacture=Scythe

    Case: $115
    Thermaltake Armour Jr.
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...ure=THERMALTAKE

    Power Supply: $131
    Silverstone Strider 600W Modular
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...ne%20Technology

Total is around 1,700 without shipping. You can probably knockdown a few parts; like get a little cheaper motherboard, maybe cheaper RAM; I didn't do much research for the best bang/$ Micron (sorry!, possibly ProMos would do, they aren't that bad, but I just found a kit of Micron D9 that I knew.) You could probably get away with like a 7900GS, since I doubt you need DX-10, but this can just be a guide to what you need.

Ahh, I was wondering for an e6600 since I'll be doing a lot of video encoding and same with the PSU, I never want less. My PSU in the old comp. had 250W and I didn't know that, so I added another HD and all I experienced was crashes.

I just wanna be on the safe side. Also, for the ram, is it possible if it can be from ncix.com?

And for the graphics card, what if I get the 320MB one? Isn't it the almost the same thing but a hundred dollars less?

Yeah, forgot about the 320MB version, you can go for that.

The PSU I chose is very good. You can read a review of the Striders at http://www.jonnyguru.com/ .

Is it enough though? For a card like 8800?

Also, for the ram, can it be this:

    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...CZ%20Technology

I'd like to purchase all the parts from the same location if possible. NCIX isn't far from where I live so I'll just go and get it thats why I don't need to pay for shipping charges.

And, I think I'll drop a hundred bucks (because I'll go for the 320MB version) and add that to the e6600.

Is sound card built into the motherboard btw?

    Thanks for your help.

try that as a HSF insteed. Performanfce wise, ti's neck nd neck with the infinity, but the infinity requires mods to reach that level.

if silence is your thing though, the infinity is probably better then.
    Also, anther consideration

    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...re=THERMALRIGHT
Ultra 120, apparently it's rather good and the primary reason it didn't catch on at first was because all reviews ranking it didn't use a fan on it(Do'h)
    http://anandtech.com/casecooling/showdoc.aspx?i=2941&p=1
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...ure=Yate%20Loon

yate loons are cheap and decent set to 7V i hear its nearly silent.

the scythe might look bad i that review, but that's because it isn't pressure mounted, the stock retention clips on it suck.

    also on memory, go cheaper
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...CZ%20Technology

    those are most likely promos

    on the CPu go higher
    http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=191...nufacture=Intel

after you consider in the fact that tankguys RAM is listed in USD and that the conversion rate isnt' exact it's cheaper/better to go with the 6600(the 6600 has more l2 cache which can offset any potential memory performance hit and then some)

My build has the E'6600 and the Team Xtreme RAM, and it fits the price. I'd just have to modify the video card with the 8800GTS 320mb version, and the build fits the build by like -$40ish with shipping.

actually, it doesn't have the e6600 it has the 6400. I'm just saying that in this scenario, the added l2 cache would outweight a slight increase in memory latency you get a higher multiplier and the cost would more or less be the same.

He could just mantain the e6400 and go with the Cheaper RAM and keep the 640mb version of the 8800GTS, those things are memory hungry when playing at high resolutions and settings.
