Do you guys think being artistic is something you have from birth or can you learn it. the reason i ask is because i really want to be a graphic designer and i cant even get near to making sigs as good as some people in here without following a tutorial or something.
some just have a natural talent some have to work harder to do it if you have the drive go for it but i wouldnt focus on signaturs maybe do large art or templates practice is the only way im afraid
just practice, practice practice. fool around and experiment with everything in photoshop. it just takes time. p.s. who said tutorials are a bad thing?
Also being a good sig designer does not mean you'll be a good graphics designer. Each has their own niche in which they fill. Graphics designers are expected to do quite a lot so being good a sigs is not a good indication as to whether or not you could do the job.
what gurly said, just depends on what you are really good at, I'm not really good in CG but I make some pretty good stuff in hand drawn graphics... I just need to learn how to use the pen tool to trace it, read up tutorials to get some tips on doing certain effects, let your imagination do the rest the more you do it, the more you get better at it....
I personnaly am awful with sigs, cant make anything near to as good as your current in im honest. But i made a template and i really enjoyed doing it,were all good at different things, just gotta find it. Scoob
Being able to invisionize what looks good and what doesn't is something you do pick up naturally, you cannot force that upon yourself. But that may not be your problem...your problem may be photoshop. You may be finding it hard to learn what certain things do, and how to acheieve the effects you want...and I personally think that if you can only make 'sigs' you are not a good graphics designer anyway.
it just really takes time. ive been doin it for over a year now and now i get more creative ideas and think outside the box when before i would have to do things from tutorials. i no im still not the best or amazingly good but i sure have improved
some ppl are natural with art. tehy just know when something is artistic and others have to work for it. its just practise and working hard
you will never get the same effects if you read tuts make your own sigs eperiment. you need to be creative
first off sigs aren't representative of all cgfx, and especially not art in general. As has been mentioned you might be bad at sigs but good in animation, or web layouts, etc. The reserve could be true. 2nd, nothing wrong with starting off with tuts just so long as you actually try to learn from them instead of just memorizing what they did, and you start bringing in your own unique ideas eventually from experimenting. But yeah some people are just more naturally creative than others - think along the lines of Mozart, Picasso, etc., the ideas would just flow into their heads. No amount of training will ever be able to recreate that (although it's worth noting that those two happened to be crazy, go figure). Plus those are exceptions. A lot of other things are learnt; things you study in art school, compositioning and layout, color theory etc.
