it's because XP has a more efficient API and is a more aggressive with memory caching.

the more RAM you have, the more aggressive you want the OS. Vista just went too far, because as it is, it essentially can't get much more aggressive, where XP was still somewhat conservative, vista is just horrifically memory hungry. Once the drivers are sorted out, and once most people start using 2+GB RAM, vista will yield better performance

    not really.

    misconception.

most of vista's issues are related to 3rd party support and the issue of it being so demanding of memory was intentional(ultimately it will improve performance once other's PC catch up)

Just noticed? Man, Crysis is gonna be way better. Those graphics are twice as better as Halo 2s, and it is 3 yr old port. Too long, probably isn't gonna sell all that great. -_-

Most people complaining about vista anit 100% right. Ive been using vista for over 1 month now and its fine. Imagine Xp with a fancy GUI. Ok some games do lag a bit more then on XP but what to you expect. Vista has alot more features then just DX10 like accessibility options and not to mention its alot safter then XP even wothout any updates. Halo 2 might need vista, It might need a massive power hungry pc to run it....but just remember your all going to have to upgrade one day ;)

so if I have this right, you paid money to have a performance hit?

that's why everyone rags on vista.

and halo2 won't require a massive PC to run it. It runs on an xbox just fine and that uses what, a 866Mhz Celeron, 64mb RAM, and a GeForce 3. Even with vista's overhead, you should be able run it on just about anything.

and FYI, if I'm getting a new OS, I expect a performance boost, not a performance hit.

uhh dude.. I'm a university student, i get the full shid for around 70$ and at this moment I'm not buying it.

and trust me when i say this, pirating vista is easy. It's not that we can't afford it, it's that it's not worth our time to install it at this point
