So, we've all heard about the iPhone and how it's going to "revolutionise" stuff, but what do you guys think? I think it's really cool, but cool doesn't necessarily mean it will be successful. Feature-wise I think it's great but I really can't see how they will end up selling it for $500 as predicted, because even the standard Nokia smartphone costs around $800 or so... So, will it be hot or not?
I don't really know how successful it's going to be. To me 500 is alot because I'm 14 and don't work, so I would rather get a regular cellphone. I wouldn't have much use for the MP3 features and such anyway..
Well yeah, the brand does help it a lot. But personally, I think the price of $499 is a little too optimistic! I can't easily afford it as I too am just 15 and only get money from odd jobs I do on the internet, but I think this price is very low. I do not know how good the quality of the iPhone will be, but that is a hell of a lot of features to give for just $499. The closest phone I can think of off-hand is the Nokia n91 which is around $800 (I live in the UK so don't know the exact price in USD). There's still a long time till it's release date [June 2007] so I guess by that time, features such as 802.11g wifi will be commonplace in phones so perhaps Apple's counting on that. The price is high if you compare it to an iPod, but compared to another phone of similar specs, I do not think this is too high a price.
All right, the people who buy the iPhone early are the ones who are gonna pay more. The fanboys of Apple will buy it for the name, and it's nothing more a blackberry and a blackjack has, except with the iPod built to it. The price will eventually drop in a couple weeks, like the Apple TV did. It'll be a success, but nothing really revolutionary in my opinion. Merged Post: And another thing, the specs put into the iPhone was totalled at around $250 for both versions.
I think the debut will be comparable to the PS3 (on a smaller scale.) A lot of hype, but disappointing results compared to the projected outcome.
