Recently, a friend of mine posed a great statement : I have no trust in the foundations of education most of it is evidently mental endurance designed to produce our productivity after brief analysis, I can find myself only agreeing. society on the whole notes the importance of eduction, but for what? Statistics show that college graduates make more money, but the average college graduate is typically somewhat more intelligent that the typical proletarian and would in a majority of cases be very capable of better substance without a degree. Bill gates and Steve jobs would be primary examples. Even within my own family I can see evidence of this. My uncle has a masters degree, yet my father who dropped out of college half way through his senior year has accrued more wealth despite being the more disadvantaged, youngest son. in all, what are your views? Is extensive education a necessity, or merely a tool of those in higher political positions to ensure the productivity of the lower classes? EDIT: this refers more to the validity of today's educational systems, not the necessity to go through them.
I agree there a waste of time...But i go to them...If i knew they wouldnt help me i wouldnt go, Ive learnt alot from school...Havent in college but its them extra grades that might just get me a half decent job Arbiter
School is a little more than a place to learn about math, science, english, and history. It's where social skills develop and mature, it's a place to nurture human beings. Although I do agree somewhat with the statement, I don't with all of it.
Every explanation I've gotten from my school whenever I asked them why they force us to learn things that we won't be using in our future careers was that they want us to be well rounded individuals. They also told me that if I wanted to focus on a specific field, I should have gone to a technical school. When I told them that sports and entertainment management isn't exactly a technical trade, they told me I had to go because there was a meeting in a few minutes. It's a bit annoying to have to sit through classes like Calculus thinking to yourself how useless this will all be once the year ends. There really isn't anything for us to do about it, so I don't see a point in making a big fuss over it anymore. I've taken my focus from trying to do something about it to not putting any effort into the class and still getting the A. It tends to piss my teachers off when I blow off the work in class and still ace just about anything they throw my way. Anyway, back to your question as to whether education is a necessity or a tool to ensure productivity out of lower classes. I don't really see it as either. In some ways, I can see why your traditional High Schools force you to take classes like math, science, history, etc. Being well rounded or at least informed in those subjects can in fact make you a better person when you look at it. You have at least the basic tools for understanding many different things, therefore you won't be at a loss in most situations when you go out on your own.
as maxists would say its a way for capitalism to keep us under control and fundamentalist would say it teaches u who does well and who doesnt.
A lot of people didnt get educated and they were fine. Einstein for instance...but uh..im no einstein so im gonna stay inschool..=/
i can understand having to go to learn things such as basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and other necessities but aside from those, i dont see much point in going to school
People who get rich without a college degree make up small small percents and its not worth the risk. I'd rather waste 4-8 years and guarenttee my success, than save those years and have like a 90% chance of being broke.
The point of education is to learn something, yet people make it seem like grades = a person's intelligence, when it doesn't. A grade is just a letter on a paper. I can get a 40 (Failing grade here in the states) in one test, but just completely destroy my history teacher in any kind of political or religious debate. I find it sad sometimes, cause a lot of the stuff you learn in school you really have no clear use for in the real world, or rather, whatever occupation you plan to have in the future. Education needs a major reform in so many different ways. Not even education... schools in general need a major reform.
I think college should accept people in terms of the highest potential, not the highest grades.. Anyone can cheat their way into college, but not many people have enough potential to actually make it on their own in there/real world. But if that was the case, they'd get flooded with people. xD So, nevermind.
Ya grades dont mean anything. I just try and keep 80's + so I can get into university. If it wasnt for that, I wouldnt bother.
