they have that add in here around once a week...

and don't btoehr with the OCz 1GB, you don't need the rated speed, and it's jus cheap elpida anyway and you'de get about the same out of most value RAM anyway.

Also, get 2*512mb Dual channel, not a single module.

Wont it be better to get a 1*1gb now, then another later, so that he can run 2gb dual channel?

you do realize that the likely hood of finding the exact model/one which is compatable is very slim right?

I mean, chances are within 10 months all current memory ICs will be out of production and swapped for something else...

True. Which is why I'm buying 2x1gb now, instead of later.

In ram do you have to match exactly everything to get it running properly?

    ex:

    can I use
    ram ddr 500 pc 5400 model ex2
    and
    ram ddr 500 pc5400 model d52

The only difference is the model but will those 2 be able to work?

no but they need identical ICs, similar PCb board esign and similar SPDs/ chip logic.

the modules don't even need to be of identical capacity though.

and even if they're the same model they might not work. Early revisions of my RAM used micron ICs, the same MODEL now uses elpida. if i mixed the two woudl nto work.
