Well, ive been having this problem for a long long time, but i really just ignored it because it was cool. But it is getting really annoying. I'm getting around 10-15 fps all the time in game. My cousin and i have about the same system but he has a later graphics card then me, but he gets around 50+ fps and thats even with alot of shooting going on. Ill try to get close to describing as possible but here is what i can tell you. Before i updated my drivers to the most latest for ATI Radeon, it was around 10-15 fps same thing. Now i was thinking that the problem was that my drivers aren't updated to the latest. So i went to the website to download the latest drivers. I deleted all my previous drivers and installed the newer ones. No difference at all. I still get 10-15 fps and i was told that updating my drivers would help me. Guess it didn't Anyways your probably wondering what my Computer Specs are. Here it is: Computer: Intel Pentium 4 Windows XP ----- Processor: 1.8GHz Memory RAM: 512 MB Display: ATI Radeon 9550 AGP 256 MB Please help me or tell me what im doing wrong. Thanks in advance
your processor is pretty slow, and the lack of ram and a decent video card arent helping it much. im not even sure if you meet all the minimum requiremnets for it.
Well the min requirments are 1.2 GHz processor . 256 mb ram the Recommended is 2.4 GHz so im in between. Also for other games such as Call of duty 2 work fine when i play them. I don't get why CS:S cant be the same, and plus i kno i dont have the perfect system, but i think its pretty good just to "run" (or atleast have it run well)
graphics card may be letting you down...I had a NVIDIA 6200 and it stuggled. Try getting a better card. Try turning settings down aswell....Maybe there on full and your card cant handle that Arbiter
eh. ok i guess so. but is there any other way to at least get a better game experience or any tweaking that could help me?
Turn the graphics down to medium or low if they are on full. Css needs pixel shader 2.0 to run full and i dont think your card has that (im not a ATI fan). turning the graphics down to medium will not make Css look that bad...Low might look really choppy but it should play fine Arbiter Merged Post: Another way would be to make sure you are running minumum tasks in the background. if your running alot of programs while playing the game that will slow your pc down and make the game run slower giving you a bad FPS. Arbiter
well I have a simliar situation I guess. I have a 2.4ghz cpu 1gig of ram a 6800XT :shaggy: 128mb and I get about 30fps and it spikes I guess I need to turn like antistropic filtering or something off even though it says that Cs:s says that it can handle it.
change the driver settings to force AA off and set filtering to trilinear. then lower things and enable any driver related optimizations. and to be honest i don't think it's entirely the GFX card, i could play it OK with a radeon 9250 512mb RAm and an athlon 64 3000+ clocked at 2.0GHz so no clue. FPS shouldn't be that restricted by your CPU.
if its working like crap probably you have your settings to high, and try and change the ingame dx to 7
Too bad that both of those settings are illegal in leagues, thats if he plays leagues, if not I have a config that should help you. I Hate Glock'z Config This config is setup to lower most of the graphics, and gettin' the most fps possible. Note: If you have a slow connection change this in config: 'rate 25000' This is legal in CAL, if you're wondering.
Thanks for the suggestion xelink now I have a little bit more frames but I still can play on high settings with out spiking =D
i remember way back when steam updated css to have HDR and everyone who didnt have a high end card had their fps drop to around 15-20. the fix was something like open steam browser and go to games list right click on Counter Strike Source Properties > Set Launch Options in the text box type in "-dxlevel 81" (without quotes of course) dunno if this is still 'needed' but just in case
Ive had this problem in the past... I do not know what the cause was, but once I formatted and copied my steam folder it fixed itself.
