Now all of you know about the ever so common single core and dual core cpus. And most know about the intel quad core. BUT there's something new coming SOON. Intel's making a new cpu. Its multi cored of course. Now you might ask how many it its this time 6-8 is what most guess right. WELL you WRONG. They are in development of an astondy 80 core cpu. what cha think about that one :P

The 80 core cpu was nothing more than showing off. They crammed as many cores as possible onto the wafer in order to see what was possible. There will not be an 80 core cpu available to any one any time in the near (5 years) future.

GRs new lack of literacy FTW!!1!!!!111!!!!111!!111!!!11!!1

the whole reason why we have this multicored crap going on is because CPUs are barely being utilized as is. even if one part of a CPU is working at 100%; 90% of the CPU is stil idle... and that can't really be fixed until programming catches up... but it won't and that has been acknowleged... so instead of adding more parts to a core, they increased the core count...

why couldn't they just add more functional units to a CPU and give it like 100 virtual threads...

    it's not oming

    ever.

    atleast not to retail

    it's just a concept.

Intel allready has it's engineers working on their plans for the next 5 years laid out for the most part.

in 2008, we get nahalem, in 2010, we get some toerh shid that has very little known about it other than it's 32nm
