This is a edited version of my original tread

I would like to/need to compare the best custom gaming workstation/server to the best alienware gaming workstation/server for around the same price and using equivalent level componentry. The system will be used as a server to run games on a network.

    Things to remember
price in relation to the alianware system
Componentry – equipment – componets and peripheral
The best “NOS” operating system Xp will be installed how ever I do believe that maybe Lynx, or Unix runs better in a server environment

Votes for the top machine will be taken in a separate thread named “which is better?”
Creds will be giving up 50 for the WINZOR

lol the best alienware is over 6000 so normally i didn;t think i should say that you should keep in mind not to go to much over the alienware pc

to make this more interesting lets say that in another tread ppl can vote for the best custom and then a winner will be given creds.

    have fun

we don't need a thread it's this simple

    Custom built>ANY prebuilt

    any includes alienware

custom gives you a cheaper more features and a better quality PC

    end of case

    umm
    yes...

    striker xtreme board
    QX6700 OCed to 3.6GHz
    4GB RAM
    5*15k rpm drives in RAID5
    two highend water cooling kits
    dual 8800GTXs

that would probably outperforman any alienware curently made

Alienware overheat, so unless you want to flash out on one helluva fan, then go custom.

No they don't. In fact, most Alienwares have water cooling.

The build I gave is $5750, but it will outperform every single alienware for sure. Add another $40 for a better HSF, $70 for dual dvd writers and $10 for a cardreader, if you really want.

My custom one can beat most alienwares, which is kinda sad, as it only cost me £900 to build it.

most of the time yes, but there certainly are exceptions.
