I want to build a good computer, mostly for games that comes to only around 3,000 bucks, I have a monitor so thats not a problem.

Heres what I pretty much want.

    - Fast speed
    - Under 3,000 USD
    - Play games like Crysis, WoW, CoD 3, ect
    - No lagging
    - Able to run Vista when it runs correctly

    Thanks alot

are you going to build it yourself? and 3,000 usd for a computer without a monitor will get you a very good computer. get like a DX10 video card, and a powerful Core 2 DUO, also atleast 2 gigs of ram.

Yeah, I'll build it myself, my first time building it but if I have any trouble I'll just take it to a computer store, but the parts under 3,000 dollars, I'll worry about the cost of putting it togeather if I can't figure it out :P

    overclock or no overclock?

rough idea of what you cna get for a fair amount less than 3k

Core 2 quad q6600(just overclock it)
decent H20 cooling system, maybe with some pelts.
    2GB RAM
16GB SSD for page filing(which would make up for vista being such a horid memory cacher)
two 8800GTSes in SLi(buy oen now and the second later when needed).
    4*150GB raptors RAID 5

that should still leave you with some fonyour budget left and a really fast system

one thing, what's the max resolution your monitor supports? 1280*1024 and you'de probably only 'need' to have one for Crysis

also, i'd liek to let you know that the 8800s have very poor driver support in vista at this time, so you'de have to be using XP for gaming until that improves

Yeah its a 1280*1024, 17" Flat-Panel LCD, I figured if I have money left over I'll upgrade that but a good computer is top on my list.

And about overclocking, is that safe to do if I have never done it before, also how would I go about finding a good case?

because his resolution only goes to 1280*1024, not 2560*2048

chances are, a single 8800GTs would run rysis fine and fi ot, you can add a second.

Also if you don't mind, what is a site that has cheap parts, is newegg the best?

And how much are 2560*2048 monitors?

$1-2,000 depending on what you get. they're ebtter for ----- use than for gaming as their respocne times aren't so great and their color and contrast isn't quite as good as smaller monitors.

the pricing on them is ridiculous...

    here is a CRT with 2048 x 1536

and here are LCDs with 1920 x 1200
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....tk=&srchInDesc=

I again advise you, don't spend money just because you can, it's better to put off unnecessary/unjustifiable purchases until as late as possible. if games look nice and crisp to you at 1280*1024, then they look nice and crisp. Remember, you can turn settings like antialiasing and anisotropic filtering up higher when at lower resolutions. It's all about finding a balance between wants, needs and cash.

here is the highest resolution monitor I know of
    http://www.dell.com/content/topics/topic.a...c=us&l=en&s=gen

and i lied, effectively no monitors do 2560*2048, my error...

also, remember that CRTs are better in gaming than LCDs. CRTS have a negligeable respone time, faster refresh rates, better color quality, indefinite contrast ratios and truer blacks, they're just... wat's the word for it, a strain on the eyes

Honestly, what is the point of having 4 Raptors? I'd suggest 1x 150GB Raptor, and as many 320GB Seagate Barracudas as you need/want.

If you were an intense overclocker, I would say go for a Phase Changer, but as it is, it doesn't seem like you are.

    So yeah, I'd say:
    Core 2 Duo QX6600
    eVGA nForce 680i motherboard
Cell Shock 2x 1GB Micron D9GKX (hopefully it get backs in stock. If not, choose another Team Group kit.)
    1x/2x 8800GTS
    1x 150GB Raptor
    1x/2x/3x/4x 320GB Seagate Barracuda
    OCZ GameXStream 700W Power Supply
    Thermaltake Armour Case
Scythe Infinity Heatsink (or a great water cooler, you choose.)

That will put you at around $2630 (assuming 2 seagates, and 1 8800gts.)

the idea of all the raptors is
    A)he can
B)insane burst speeds and very, very fast load times.

also, the shell shock RAM is somewhat pointless for his needs, eh wants to game, not set world records and a .1% performance boost doesn't matter. He can get something good for almost half the cost.

FYI tigerdirect now stocks Team Group RAM which is nice.

No point in spending $415 on a non-server motherboard.
