I've never seen a thread about mac emulation before. So I figured I would start one here. Who here is into emulation, what do you use, and do you have screenshots of your desktop emulation. This really wouldn't belong in the screenshot thread, since it's something in and of it's self. And I would be happy to answer any questions on your quest of emulation. Well here's mine. Applications used. Rk Launcher Finder Bar Mac Clock Mac Search Mac Font Book Finderexer Modified Avedesk 2.0 Itunes with multi plugin Winexpose I'm thinking of writing a review on how to do this, if anyone shows interest I'de be happy to.
that's nto mac emulation, that's skinning a PC. skinning is not emulation, and emulation would nto change the GUI, it would just allow you to use mac based apps and virtrualization does a better job than emulation anyway... just clarifying a bit... also, the way windows does it mac skinning, it would be mostly CPu based, and not GPU based correct? that is ratehr interesting though, I might do that if I get lazy and don't try dual booting OSX(which would be a pain since I'm using SATA drives.) EDIT - all you need to do is to change your background so it has a drop shadow under the bar... liek this http://www.geektimes.com/michael/site/arch...osx-desktop.jpg see how there is a drop shadow below the thing? just edit one into the desktop-background image other than that, pretty damn good.
There's a Finder for windows????????? If im not being stupid and understanding this incorrectly then can someone please post a link? I don't want to wait for vista for finder. I'm not really sure it's called finder, but in the second picture, top right, there's the macsearch box....thats what i want. Nevermind, I found it. If anyone else wants the link http://landvermesser.tripod.com/MacSearch.html
Yup. I posted all the application names in the first post so that people can just google them if they're interested. If you edit the preferences in the macsearch you can set a hotspot instead of clicking in the running task. Macs it more real.
typically when people refer to emulating an operating system though, they're referring to emulating it's APIs, it's abstraction layer. But as far as emulating the GUI, it's not too far from it from what I see.
Just a little confusion. Arround here, emulation is different. What you are doing, arround here, it's called "skinning". Though I know what you meant, I can see how many would find it confusing. Great stuff.. Alls I need now is a Mac!
Personally I just like the look. For others they get used to the apple osx, and they would prefer the functionality and look of osx on their pc. But there are like a million different reasons.
theres one problem with mac emulation. an intel based software of mac hasn't been out long enough. i strongly suggest just getting linux, honestly it could run on a powerPC and an intel/amd based PC. linux is great.
no i was suggesting getting a mac and emulating a PC using linux and wine on a powerPC based computer. just for those who don't know, powerPC is the native base for all macs. and mac is almost identical to linux seeing as it was based on a distribution called "Darwin".
mac OSX is based off of BSD, not linux. and before that it was baed off of something entirely diferent. The PPC macs are pretty much a deadline and all new software will be coded for the x86 macs, so if you were to buy a mac, I'd advise getting an x86 one(not like you have much of a choice now though) also, he's talking about emulating a GUI, not an operating system itself.
