we are goin to make something that looks like this:
    _____________________________________

Start with a new document: 350x125 px big. Transparant background.
    Grab your Gradient tool.
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/3549/gradienttool7db.jpg
While holding shift move ur mouse up untill u get something like this:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/1769/gradient4ay.jpg
After that create a new layer and on the new layer:
    Filter/Render/Clouds
Change the blending mode on that layer to overlay.
Duplicate the clouds layer and then merge all layers.
U will have something like this:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/4274/gradientclouds4nv.jpg
    Now it's brushing time :)
Get some nice grunge brushes, make a new layer and create something like this:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/9861/brush13fs.jpg
Create a new layer and apply a nice abstract brush on it.
Best place to get those is here: http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/app...rder=5&limit=24
I used white as foreground color and the blending mode soft light for the abstract brush layer:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/8223/brush24hp.jpg
Now it's time for a nice background pic.
    I used this one:
Crop out the guy so u only have the background left:
Copy the background into your sig and scale/move it until you think it's nice, you can also delete one side of the pic. After that change the blending mode to hard light. This is how mine looks now:
Now we need to find a nice pic for the sig.
    i used this one: http://www.americasarmy.com/gallery/screen...spital9_800.jpg
Copy the picture into a new layer in your sig document. Now scale and move a bit until you think the soldier looks good.
Grab your eraser tool and delete all the parts in the picture layer that you don't want in it.
    Mine looks like this now:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/4797/pictureinsig8vy.jpg
Time to make that look a bit better...
Duplicate the soldier layer, and merge (Ctrl+E).
Go Image/Adjustment/Brightness/Contrast and use these settings:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/3285/brightnes...settings7yg.jpg
After you did that change the blending mode to Hard Light.
Now it's time to add some text.
Grab the text tool and typ your text.
I used the font Billboard. If u want a nice warped text click this button:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/8650/warpedtext7an.jpg
I used "Arch Lower" and this is what it looks like now:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/5039/textderin8pl.jpg
Time to make the text look nice...
Right click your layer in the layer palette and choose "Blending Options"
Add a Inner Shadow (default settings)
    Inner Glow (default settings)
Bevel and Emboss (change size to 0)
    Contour (default settings)
    Gradient Overlay (default settings)
    Stroke (size: 1px, color: Black)
Press OK, and this is how it looks like:
    http://img151.exs.cx/img151/7305/textfxsig9wn.jpg
Now we are goin to add a little border.
Create a new layer and after that press Ctrl+A. Now go Edit/Stroke and use these settings:
Repeat that step but now use:
    Size: 2px
    Color: White
    and again:
    Size: 1px
    Color: Black
Now we have a nice and good looking 3px border.
Time to add some color to the sig...
    Go Layer/New Adjustment Layer/Color Balance
Press Ok and on the new window that apears play around with the settings untill it looks fine.
    We are finished now :D
    this is my result:
