I'd advise putting off getting more RAM than necessary, 2GB will most likely be more than enough(and if not, just add in more)

e6600 is also a great chip too.

I'd have to think of where to go for parts in canada...

ncix tigerdirect are good from wht I know, also, I know there is redflag deals, but it's a hassle...

given that he won't be OCing, I'll list parts which OC acceptably but aren't best for OCing and are just , well the cheapest you can get...
Cheapest 2GB RAM kit(feel free to substitute)

Any substitution needed to the parts is appreciated. Also, do I need anything else? Thanks.

non overclocked systems dont' need fast RAM. their FSb is only 266mhz which is hardly enough, it's already mostly saturated.

in short, if you're not overclocking, you can use cheep RAM and never know the difference.

and once again, I iterate that the 8800GTX will not last and longer than the 8800GTS. Both will be "obsolete" at about the same time. It would eb wiser to put the difference into a 9800GTS(or whatever it's called) in the future.
Typically the higher end GTX models are bought by tech enthusiasts who are set out to overclock the things and to break some world records. Then they're sold off within a few weeks.

PSU - if you're only using one card, a high quality 400-500W PSU would be more than sufficient.

cooling - you're nto voerclovking and using a the non-stock CPU cooler voids the warranty, changing thew ehatsinks on the motherboard voids the warranty... the only thing that would eb left would be case fans. The stock cooler on the 8800s is also pretty good.

the bigger the better, you can leave the fan on low for silence, but decent airflow.

FM121 they're expensive but they're some of the best. They can be tuned for silence or turned up for maximum cooling.

also an idea, why not set up a RAID array? 3 of the 250GB version of the baracudas in RAID0 or RAID5 would be blazing fast.

if you want a large versatile case
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...re=COOLERMASTER
it's not really the prettiest of cases. It weighs a lot(~35lbs or ~15KG). It's also very sturdy, accomadates, many fans, is very roomy and is considered to be agood case for modding, water cooling and massive drive storage.

Well, I think it's better to be safe when it comes to PSUs.

    Would this PSU do?
    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...2&Sku=O261-2004

For RAM, I'll use what you recommended:
    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...1828&CatId=2261

As for the Graphics Card, I'll get the 8800GTS. He wanted a 8800 so might as well get a GTS since the power is almost not that different.

    Case: (one you recommended)
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...re=COOLERMASTER

"also an idea, why not set up a RAID array? 3 of the 250GB version of the baracudas in RAID0 or RAID5 would be blazing fast."

I think thats everything. Just the optical drives remain.
I have no idea what you said there lol, if it's possible for you, can you explain so a beginner can understand? Sorry.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

and I'll agree with you on the PSu thing it is DEFINATELY better to have more than you need as opposed to too little.
there's just a point where you don't need the extra power difference. a 700W PSU which peeks at 770ish is just a bit of overkill for a system which probably won't peak at more than 400W full load, EVER, even 300W-350W is a liberal estimate.(remember you do want SOME overhead to compensate for capacitor aging in the PSU, they dont' last forever)

as for optical drives, and DVD RW drive should work, they've progressed to the point where that the cheep drives are about as good as the good drives in terms of performance and reliability. Just find one that seems decent.
