    Hey guys :D

Ok since we all know that Vista got released about 2 days ago or so :D

    I was just wondering

If I upgrade my windows xp media center edition to vista premium (I have a free upgrade from fujitsu)

will I loose all of my work on the computer?
like I have Photoshop, Macromedia software, maxon, autodesk, autocad, etc etc...
Do i loose all of my files

btw all my software is legal :)

    XD

so yeah do I loose all of that?

    Zain :)

Hmm... more than likely you will.

    But how do I know?

I never purchased Vista because operating systems are always terrible when they are realeased, I suggest you wait until Vista has been out for 2-3 months so that microsoft can fix the bugs.

But If you want to install it anyway, back your harddrive up just in case it does delete your files.

most of everything should work software wise.

you'de just experience a 1-30% performance hit in some things.
and some hardware like printers might now work well.

512MB system RAM doesn't cut it in vista either. 1GB is the minimum with 3GB being comfortable.

This is why Microsoft has been releasing all the betas... so that they could work out the major bugs. Ive got a friend who has the last beta and it works fine for him... no bugs whatsoever

xelink is spot on with his comments. You'll need plenty of RAM to get the full visual experience of Vista and it's pretty stable. You may have some problems with some third party drivers or software, but that's nothing that a little time won't fix soon.

It's much more stable than XP was when first released and it manages systems resources a lot better than XP ever did.

I have Vista, Ultimate. Obviously I can, but what about the people who have no money? How can they afford several GB's of memory?

Why would it matter so much though? If it's all legal, can't you just re-install it? It would only take about a day, I wouldn't lose sleep on it :P

    no.

you need plenty of RAM to run vista. Those tests were done with the eye candy off.

and as for managing system resources, it is a matter of opinion, it's certainly a more aggressive memory cacher and that will give it a huge advantage in 2-3 years. At this time though, it's excessive memory caching is a detriment.

Mine stayed the excact same, the files and that. But Vista is incredible, I just need a new vid card and a better CPU to get it working better.

Vista performance is more dependant of the quantity of RAM you have more so than anything else.

the video card won't do shid, I've heard of people running vista on GeForce 2s and those are pretty weak.

CPU performance is also similar to XP, synthetic tests like superpi are aroudn the same under vista.

again any vista performance hits are due to harddrive swapping which wastes CPU cycles. if the CPu is doing nothing while waiting for data, it doens' t matter how fast it is.

    Lets see here
I have a 2GB ram on my laptop
    with ATI Radeon X1400 :)

A fair enough deal for vista

but yeah I will see that if I can get a backup external hd from my parents (buy one)
    XD

    other than that
if not then I will probably just wait one or two months :D

    THanks guys
