Radeon X1650 ---

What do you the people that own or that have owned it think about it?

 

I think it's over priced when compared to nVidia's 7600GT or ATi's own x800GTO

why?

 

IF you can get a 7600GT for $80, yes then it's overpriced. I dont know much about it so better search a good review for it.

 

i ment the 512mb not the 256 i didnt know at the time they made both

 

the x1600s and the 7600s aren't powerful enough to play games at settings which need 512mb of RAM. in fact it hardly needs 256mb.

in 1996 when cards had 1-8mb RAM and windows used half of it, vRAM quantity mattered ALOT, but that was then, this is now. In todays environment, memory speed(bandwidth and altency) matters more than memory capacity

don't believe me? PS3 only has 256mb VRAM and it has a gpu nearly twice as powerful as the 7600GTs and the x1650s.

The 512mb gddr2 version or 256mb gddr3?

 

yeh, the 512mb version only comes with gDDR2

which means that the 256mb version is actually more powerful since it uses gDDR3.

it's liek comparing 533mhz RAM with 1600mhz RAM

err wait... it is comparing 533mhz RAM to 1600mhz RAM.

Hmm, Should of just waited for the R600 in March..

 

how much was it on sale? Even if it's on 'sale' it can be a ripoff, I've seen Fry's electronics sell things for 80$ on 'sale' than i can find online for $50

I'd say performance wise it's worth around 70-90ish.

again it doesn't match up to ATI's own x800GTO and it sure the hell doesn't match up to nvidias 7600s

it's hardly any better than the x1300s(x1300s do kick nvidias 7300s badly though but still)

 

i got it for 40$s off of anywhere else ive seen it and i have agp so my choices are limited

 

oh, if you have AGP, that is an entirely diferent story.

PCI-e crads are typically cheaper than AGP cards, but yes, when you have AGP your screwed. For the money the x1600 isn't too bad compared to other AGP cards.

yeh, those are going for about $75 right now and aren't too bad. for that price
