I'm a router noob, so I need help.

My computer is directly connected to the router and my moms laptop is wireless, now some times she gets disconnected and some times I get disconnected or I get problems like where aim randomly gets disconnected and then it re-connects. I'm sure this is a setting, but I dont know what to do. Any help?

Probablly just a bad router. Your probablly trying to push too much data through the pipe that the router can handle. When this happens, most routers go into a power cycle.

Ok well i had exactly the same trouble when i first got my router the card was not in properly and i kept get dc but i solved that by fixing it then every now and again it drops out sometimes it doesn't work at all, it may have to get used to it so yeah hope this helps :) and if you do get dc then pull out the black cord in ur router wait 10 seconds and then put it back in arfter 5seconds-5 minutes it will come back depending on ur connection.

If its AIM. Make sure port 5190 is open on your IP. Thats the port the AIM uses.

Generally you don't need to. Though with it sounding to be a big problem, forwarding the ports wouldn't hurt...that much.

Yea I tried it today and it didnt help, so I'm guessing it's some thing with my routers configuration, I even returned that one since I got warranty for it and got a new one and still have the same problems. So I might as well have to call up the D-Links customer service. Bleh I hate routers, I wouldnt even use it if it wasnt for my moms laptop.

Ahh thats allright man, anyways I ended up asking the customer serivce and they said it's a upnp some thing like that setting which I gotta turn off in my router and my computer. I just did that, so I hope this helps the problem. Cause it's beyong annoying when your raping some one in an online game and you get disconnected.
