Well basically I have a question concerning internet speeds. I have ADSL 256kb/s, but I always download at 30kb/s. Well I dunno if this is normal (I am very noob at computers and stuff) so just wondering if this would be the correct download speed. Thanks
thats correct @30kb dl i think the reason is something like network speeds are mesured in bits while everything else is mesured with bytes. So the speeds of a network, ie ur internet connection, is up by a factor of a little more than 10. or something like that so if u bought a service with up to 256kb dl that means ur gonna dl at around 25kb max if you got a service that said up to 1.5mb dl speeds, ur gonna dl at around 150kb max etc, etc
There is a difference, you've got a 256kbits connection, but you download at +/- 30Kb/sec. I've got like 4Mbits, but I download at 500Kb/sec, so your connection is right. It can also depend on the server where you download from.
no, 30kb/s is just right oh and, there's 8 bits to a byte so divide your net speed in mbit by 8 and you have a base of a download speed
Whatever you have, you divide it by 8 and thats your real speed. Just like .DevastatioN. said, he has 4 so when you divide that by 8, you get 500kb/s.
Yeah like the others said. There are MANY factors on download speed. Location of Server Server Load How full your bandwidth is Your ISP's connection. So you should be fine.
Well I guess a reason why sometimes i get slower speeds its prolly cos the server which the download comes from is usually in europe or usa, and Im from aussie.
