No joke and no lie. YOU MUST LEARN HOW TO OVERCLOCK A CPU TO GET THE BEST PERFORMENCE. the cpu intel is GOING to release is for the people who are in budget, it suppose to compete with AMD dual core series, its a TINY slower then the e6300 but once you overclock, you can get the speed of an e6700 EXTREME. Intel has design this for beginner overclockers to get high performence rates. It is EASILY overclockable at high clock rates and you will save alot of money.
decent build, be prepared to substitute an 8600 for the 7900 relatively soon though. also, the Biostar P965 Tforce board is a reasonable substitution at around the same price. and the last thing, give the proper link to the card, that's a fairly good deal.
Yeah the 8600ULTRA is equivalent to the 7900GTX, although the price will be a little bit higher around $200? Also generally we are talking about overclocking, the GA-965-S3 is best known budget overclocking motherboard. I have it myself, It does the job well for my E6600
i used a GA-965-S3 to overclock my e6600 to take the top spot in the super pi thread. its a decent board but i couldnt get it past 3.2ghz
for 600$ it is more or less the ultimate rig right here and now. other than that it neglects a case power supply and optical drive(s)
wow, thats awesome. gotta rethink all the parts i need. Since mine is going to cost a little over $800. How high can you overclock that cpu? If its high enough i may get that one instead
errr you can easily get that under 150$... if not less i mean you dont need a super case... and optical drives are not that expensive.
You could only get it to 355FSB? Did you modifer the Divider to 1 (or DDR2-533)? I have my Biostar TForce 965PT at (max) 440, and running stable now at 405 (4-4-4-9). Your E'6600 should be able to get around 9-13 seconds on super pi. I'm only off your time by about a second, and after factoring in minus 2MB cache, that is pretty good. Here was my best so far: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=156634 Oh yeah, replace the Cavier with a Barracuda, PRM delivers more preformance (and the added sound is neer null.) As for stuff you're missing... case (cheapest), I'd wouldnt go lower then $40 Power Supply... at least around $70 for decent one optical.. $30 so a good $740+shipping build. GJ.
which PSU, there is a difrerence between a PSU rated 500 peak and 500 sustained. the 500W sustained might deliver 600W peak, and the 500W peak might only deliver 3-400W sustained. and total wattage doesn't matter all that much, most parts draw primarily from the 12 rails. If the PSU delivers 450W between the 3.3V and 5V rails, but only 50W on the 12V rail, you're screwed.
