    OCZ Gold 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2G8001GK - Retail

    HP dvd740i DVD Writer

Western Digital WD2500JBTRL 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Hard Drive

All components are brand new except the dvd writer and the hard disk.

The memory is installed as dual-channel. All drivers are of the latest stable releases. I have the dual-core optimizer installed from microsoft and all the updates for windows. Even after a fresh install of the OS, this problem occurs. I am having a jitter problem. It occurs when opening new windows or programs and especially while watching movies or playing games.

I first thought that it was a memory problem so I did some checking around and found out that the memory timing was set incorrectly so I changed it (Original 5-5-5-15 Actual 5-5-5-12). But this didn't appear to help much.

Then I thought perhaps the graphics card was running incorrectly so I messed around with various settings, including reducing the core and memory frequencies, again with no luck.

I also ran a S.M.A.R.T. check on the hard drive using SpeedFan utility and the results showed the hard drive running at 98% efficient.

I then thought perhaps the voltages were set incorrectly in the bios so I checked all manufacturer white papers on all my products and changed from "AUTO" select in bios to the actual settings. But still no change in performance.

On this mobo there are a plethora of memory settings that I didn't adjust and just left at "AUTO". I don't know if these setting are the culprit or not.

I am completely stuck, any suggestions would be helpful.

I had this mobo ( a variation of it ), and almost the same ram ( might be a different model # ) and that mobo did not like the ram at all. It would not post at first, then I flashed the bios, which let it work in duel channel. After that, I could not get windows to install correctly - if at all. When windows did install, explorer crashed constantly.

I just said screw it, shipped the ram back, and the mobo, proc etc. I got my C2D now.

But yea, check the ASUS forums, ask around see if it might be the ram, but im not sure ( each model of ram is different as far as compatibility it seams - my current setup has Corsair XMS2, twin2x2048-6400PRO, it works fine, but people have problems with the twin2x2048-6400C4PRO. Both DDR2 800, 2GB ).

Actually, i think i had that exact mobo.
