You've got a couple options here. 1. Call on a couple of your friends, and stand your ground against him. This isn't what Id do, because I like to take fighters one on one, but it might help in your case. I had this sort of thing happen to me several times last year. "Bullies" don't like it when kids they want to beat up stand up to them, so one of the best things you can do the next time he decides to try something, is get in his face, stay calm, and take bout everything he says with something. This will get him in the ego, and 70% of the time he'll leave you alone. For the other 30%, hide a 2x4 behind you, and crack him over the skull once he throws a punch.

Best thing to do would be to talk to the girl and tell her you were only talking to your friend. Don't avoid him or else you'll be hiding in trashcans and in the library at lunch, only fueling his rage. If he tries to fight you, obviously you're going to need to defend yourself, at least put up a fight, crawling into a fetal position will only lead to embarrassment from other peers. But unfortunately in the modern times, even defending yourself will lead to suspension and a nasty lecture from your parents. So here's my advice: Don't avoid, at least tell the person that it was a miscommunication, and fight only if you are defending yourself.
You can either do two things... A) Avoid it at all possibility..but than you'll be scared all the time. B) Go up to him and say hey bro look those things you think i said i didn't i have nothing against that family member. Tell him my bad and part ways. Don't be scared to go up to someone like that, because you can't stay scared at someone it messes with your head to always worry like that.
dont fight back, or else your have a broken shoulder, and get suspended. or just dodge everything he throws, and then he'll get really mad and look like an idiot, and keep being like "you cant even touch me?" oh yea, bob marley ftw!
apologize to the sister and explain the predicament. anyways, most people that say that they are going to beat you up are not actually going to. they're all words, but no action.
