I'd say nvidia even though i use an ATI, and i'm too poor to buy a new card it's much more lacking than any nvidia card is.

i prefer ati over nvidia due to the fact that they give u more bang for ur $ then compared to nvidia which does not give u over all that much bang for ur $

thats my experience between the two.

x1950XTX is a foolish buy most likely, an 8800GTS would serve you better if you can find one for around the same price.

it's more energy efficient, overclocks better and is voerall a better performer.

unless you want to do some F@H stuff in which case the x1950 dominates.

Midrange Nvidia 8000 series are coming soon

only $129 for the 8600GT, although the R600 does look like it's going to be good, I'll just have to wait, I'll have to get one when i finally get PCI-e.

it's being speculated that the 8600ultra will be on par with the x1950XTX and that the 8600GT will be on par with the x1950pro.

I've used Nvidia & ATI, and Nvidia has been more stable and more reliable. The ATI cards that I've had, had issues with generating a lot of heat. But at this time I would take either one of them.

you might have had a bad fan, over the course of the last 4 years, ATi cards have typically run cooler.

but really it doesn't matter as both companies have a heat resistant procuct.

as for stability and reliability, high temps comprimise both.

again this si a thread comparing ALL of the products of the two companies, nto just the current crop. At this moment, nVidia has captured bang/% on the mainstream end and has the performance crown. Three months ago, ATI had both.

it's a race, and in my opinion, I'd rather have them both have kickass products which are very competative. When monopolistic Giants engage in price wars, WE WIN. Both ATi and nVidia want to make money off of us and both have similarly leveled technology which they are selling us, so all in al it comes down to whoever has the better deal, I don't give a damn about company loyalty. As it has turned out, in the egment which i was buy of the last three times, nVidia has offer the better priced product, but I was just an inch away from tossing a bit more cash and getting an x1900GT over the 7600GT I bought, x1900GT is over twice as powerful but all the DX9 games I play don't need it, and I like to possibility of using EVGA's trade-in program, an 8600ultra seems kickass to me.
