well, ofcourse considering the prediction is 30 years away, people are gonna be pretty calm about it.. But, 30 years from now, i don't know if i'd be that calm if the word of the "asteroid" was still about. "so what, it isnt hitting my country" you say? well, wouldn't it basically create huge earth quakes, tsunamis etc afterwards? and not just for those specific countries.. all over the world. Hell, you may even get an earthquake in Australia from the impact :P

They said what the after effects would be, how california would get bombarded by 50 ft waves for an hour or there be like a 800 ft tsunami. They havn't said anything about earthquakes but I'd much rather have an earthquake than a 800 ft wave.

They do, it's in the article or you can go back a page or two, I quoted it.

I heard about this years ago (maybe a different story and a different astroid) but even if it hits at least I'll have 30 years longer to live. Of course there would be family, so I'd be more worried about them than myself so in a way, I'd be scared but I wouldn't.

no seriouesly, all that needs to be done is this,

send a few dozen Hbombs to the thing leave them on it for a bit, and then detonate them simultaneously.

these stories that you hear, are what some might call pseudoscience, the evidence is taken and twisted to fit the preference of the author, in any of these articles is evidence actually clearly referenced and displayed as relevant?
