The story revolves around the life of Chris Gardner (Will Smith) a struggling salesman. Can't remember the name of the machine he sells but Chris explains it as being like an X-ray machine, but it takes denser pictures and costs twice as much. Now you find that these machines play a big part in his life, they're his rent, his groceries, his taxes...they are his way of life. But you find that they're not an easy product to sell. Anyway, Chris walks by a stock brokerage building on his way to a sales call and notices how happy everyone is, smiling as they leave the building and wishes that he too could be so happy. Due to the fact that Chris struggles with selling his machines, it leads to unpaid rents, and parking tickets and ultimately an eviction, a towed car, and a wife whom abandons him (Thandie Newton). He however convinces his wife to let him keep their son Christopher (real life son Jaden Smith). Soon Chris turns his hopes to becoming a stockbroker, he applies for an internship at a brokerage called Dean Witter. After being accepted he is soon thrown back into cruel reality when he finds that the intern trainee program does not include a paycheck. As if the competition wasn't stiff enough, Chris has to work twice as fast because he has to pick up his son from school, and so he can make it to the homeless shelter before it gets full. Chris puts his hopes, his dreams, everything he is into this internship, a longshot by far, but the pursuit of a better life for him and his son. This movie is a emotional rollercoaster, old problems intensify, new problems arise, good goes to bad, bad to worse. I don't usually cry in movies, but this one reminded me that I do have tear ducts. Just seeing little things throughout the movies, things I have never had to experience, such as when Chris's wife pours leftover juice from their dinner glasses back into the pitcher to save it. These things remind me how blessed I am in life. You will find the title to the movie fits the storyline perfectly, as explained in the movie, Happiness has to be pursued. I have no doubt Will Smith will get an Oscar for his performance in the Pursuit of Happyness, his son Jaden following in his footsteps to becoming a great actor. And Thandie Newton does a great job as a supporting character. A great movie in my opinion, not for everyone, but I think it's a movie everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.
lol remember the part when he said there is no y in happiness(you spelled it wrong in the title lol) that movie owned people were also crying because it was so sad. movie also shares a good message imo
I spelled it that way, because that's the title of the movie Everyone thinks that the moviemakers made a massive typo, but it was intentionally written that way.
Looks like a kinda good movie, but I'm not into those kinda movies big time so I'll wait for rentals. And sad that it's only NOW I find out Will smith is apart of the Scientology crowd. <_<
excellent movie btw everyone should see it the most incredible story i have heard true strory also btw
I'll admitt when i first seen it i was a bit iffy about going to see it. Then i realised just how powerful a movie it could turn out to be. So i went and saw it and i mean WHAT A MOVIE lol. The story is very touching and the feel of the movie as a whole is incredible. I'll be dissapointed if this doesnt win any awards. Great movie, for anyone.
