A boot passowrd is a password that a user needs to give to start a computer. Anyone know how I can put one on?

go into BIOS and look around.

I did this on an old gateway one time.

relatively few systems have this feature.

Really? Every computer I've looked on has that feature.

Be careful if you do put one on because if you forget it there's no way to find out what the password is.

Yeah my motherboard has it. And on top of that I could also set one for grub as well - that's three passwords just to get on to the pc. :D

Not many motherboards have this feature. They have BIOS passwords, don't get those confused.

And yeah.. change a jumper on the motherboard and your password protection is all for ----.

setting a password on a boot load actually does work fairly well.

as for passwords on BIOS/from bios. admittedly some do store their memory ona nonvolatile chip, so dont' be careless.

Look in the BIOS. There is an option under there.
