One i use is www.microdirect.com Only place i found which has good prices - WHen i built my PC last year all my parts were from here And my new PC parts going to be bought from here too DarkStar
Overclockers.co.uk. Open up your case and check how many RAM slots are free and at what speed it runs..
I have that mobo. It's pretty good too. It has an 8x AGP slot and a 16x PCI-e slot. It also has a 'future CPU slot'. You can buy a card that fits in there and you can put a socket AM2 procesor in it as well as up to 4GB DDR2 RAM (in two slots though). The board has 4 RAM slots, so unless you've got 4 sticks of 256 (which I highly doubt) you could put more RAM in it. I'm guessing that you've got 2 sticks of 512 (the board was designed to run in dual channel). I would say a new graphics card and/or some more RAM. This X1950Pro is basically a X1900 only it's based on 80nm technology and not 90nm, so it uses less power and it puts out less heat. This RAM should do as well. It's not the best stuff, but it'll do the job.
Upgrade your sound card for the best gaming expirence.. and also maby get a sound system if you dont have.. upgrade to XP --- or vista when its released to the public.. and more ram never hurts
I've found Scan Computers to be the cheapest in the UK for computer hardware on numerous occassions. I built my friend a Core 2 Duo E6600 system and saved about £200 or more by using Scan as compared to overclockers. If you can afford it, get an C2D E6300, MOBO and DDR2 RAM. You might also need a new PSU and GFX card. I'd recommend the ATI X1800 or X1900 series as you get a lot of bang for your buck and they are better than the Nvidia cards, although the x1950 gets pwned by the Nvidia 8800 lol. If you're looking to upgrade to a really good gaming rig, you are gonna be looking at about £500. That's for CPU, Mobo, RAM, GFX card, PSU. Hang on to your £200 and save, because the quad core processors will be out in force this year, hopefully reducing the C2D's even lower in price. Eitherway, I recommend www.scan.co.uk as I've used them numerous times, with no hassle and they were the cheapest by a mile!!
Thanks for the site Vanq, My type is DDR so does this mean i can buy any DDR ram stick? because im looking to add another 512 stick to take me upto 1GB /edit: meh i have 2 slos of 256 :S
What speed is your RAM at? If it's at DDR-333, mmh, might just want to save up for a complete rebuild. But if you don't, and lets say your RAM is slower then DDR-400, get DDR-400 anyways, it will just underclock itself automaticly.
Yeah you can. Me (personally speaking) would want a new motherboard and all, considering the RAM is at a pretty low frequency. Although, it might not add any realworld benifits, or none that would be drasticaly noticeable.
