k I have an onboard gfx card at the moment and I'm trying to play Counter-Strike Source and I'm only getting 18.52 FPS. My computer supports PCI. Motherboard: CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2800 MHz (21 x 133) Motherboard Name Dell Dimension 2400 Motherboard Chipset Intel Brookdale-G i845GEV System Memory [ TRIAL VERSION ] BIOS Type Phoenix (12/02/03) Communication Port Communications Port (COM1) Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1) I was an idiot when I ordered my computer two years ago. Anyway Marforce found this for me http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814103016 Will that work on my current computer with much better results?
it's a nice upgrade since the onboard video card eats up your RAM and with this upgrade, your RAM won't share with the onboard video card anymore... how much RAM do you have? if you have a PCI-E slot, try upgrading it a nVidia Geforce 7600GT
Is there a difference between PCI-E and PCI? I was told by DARKST4R not to go for the PCI Express. I have 1.25 GB of RAM.
Yes, Darkie was wrong. For once. There is a difference, download CPU-Z and take a screeny of the mainboard tab, and post it, then we can assist you further.
pci-e is the best for video cards now . http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814143049 extremely good deal, im actually going to buy it
From my understanding of the i845G Chip, is it DOESN'T support PCI-E. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, GO FOR PCI-E Unless you are getting a new motherboard! The board supports AGP and PCI PCI x 5, 4X AGP x 1 (For AGP & ADD Card) So I would go for AGP or PCI. The x1300 is decent, but not that great. If you want AGP (way more powerful) go for either a x1600PRO or a 7600GS. Open up your case, if you see a bunch of slots and a brown one slightly behind them, you have AGP. I would go for the 7600GS if you have the brown slot, but if your on a budget either a x1300AGP or a x1600PRO AGP will do fine. Try to steer away from PCI See that brown one? If you have that its AGP, thus you get the AGP models.
They're white meaning they're PCI so I'm kinda outta luck here. Is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814103016 fully compatible with my machine? Is there anything for around the same price that's better?
yes, PCI-e is a lot better and delivers around 64 times the bandwidth at lwoer latency than PCI it's just you're board would most likely only have PCI not even AGP.
