Ok so i updated my drivers from microsoft the otherday for my CD and DVD drive for my comp. Then when i stick a CD in there i realized that it wasnt reading. I then realized that my comp doesnt recognize either drive. so i go in and try and roll back my drivers and it said there werent any drivers to roll them back to. then i try to uninstall then reinstall the drives but that doesnt work either.... im desperate here:( any ideas?

Well if they're opening they've obviously got power, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Have you fiddled with the IDE cables recently? They shouldn't come loose too easily but in some cases they do.
Flip off the lid on your case and make sure they're plugged in properly.
Maybe the drive is dead, but if it's taking in CD's I can't see a reason why it would be.

No more, are you sure they failed right after you updated the drivers?

Looks like you're going to need some new drives then, I can't think of anything else.

I disagree. An optical drive is the second most part in the comp most likely to fail. Just because the drive mechanically opens, it doesnt mean the actual reading mechanism isnt corrupt.

Huh? Why not just go back to the old drivers? Was there a good reason for updating them in the first place?

Depending on what type of drive you have there, you can flash it. I would do a search in google for you drive and a flash program.

Thats called a firmware update. Google that instead.

For example, if you had a SONY-xxxx, google:

    firmware update SONY-xxxx

(replacing the xxxxx with whatever model you have)
