Okay so my friend's computer can't detect internet once a modem is connected to it. He has to click the network connection dialog box to login every time he starts the machine! why is that?

Also I tried to hook up a router for him, linksys and belkin. NONE of those two work!! what is the problem. Also he even brought a NEW computer, it still doesn't detect internet once it's connected a modem! wtf is going on !??!?

Thank you. Too bad I dont have much credit...

Well you have to connect if you want to access the internet you know. Not all modems are automatic or 'always on'. My usb modem has to run a connection protocol if I want internet access so I have a bash script that connects on startup.

As for the router, I'd suggest that you probably didn't set it up correctly. (Can't be sure unless you post the configuration). Oh and buying a new computer wouldn't have changed anything anyway.

If the Belkin router wont work call the helpline and they will guide you step by step what to do. They are also english which helps.

the router most probably wasn't configured correctly. try to go over the manual again or call the tech-support.

Did you see if it was turned on?

Try setting up a network connection on the computer and see if that helps

You have to configure the router, so it can accept the incoming WAN signals and route it to the clients properly. You can do this by typing 192.168.0.1 in your browser.
