Hi guys, I was wonder what program I should get.
There's Maya, 3ds Max, blender and alot more.

I am looking at something that could have been edited by Cyclops's laser beam

I know you'll say, that may be photoshop, but Cyclop's laser is just ONE example.

Im looking for something that movies may use for their "attacks" say...
Storm's lightning attack? or in X-men 3 where the brothers (pyro vs.. forgot his name) use their abilities against each other. Ice vs. fire.

I hope you get the idea. Im not looking for animation characters, just the effects.

    Which program excels at that?

    Thanks for your input!

It is up in the air on this one. All of them have their strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I use Rhinocerous. It's a great all-around program, and to me, it is easier to use than the others. You can check it out here

Photoshop is a 2D program not a 3D program but Maya is probably the best

    IMO,

3DS Max is harder to use, but more powerful. Maya is easier, but not as powerful.

You tend to find that for films, something similar to Maya is used; for games, something similar to 3DS is used.

It depends what you want it for, and what you intend to do with it etc.
