Ok I'm going to Oregon next week for Xmas and while im up there im going to be seeing my Uncle. My Uncle has offered to buy anything i need to upgrade my computer. My processor right now completly sucks and is really old and im running on 400mb of ram untill tommorrw (i'll have 2gb tommorrow) but what is a really good one out there? sorry forgot to post my specs to lazy to type them hope this is enough if u need more info ask if possible specificly i have 2 100gb hdd, a Lite-On Dvd+-R (RW) Drive and a CDR-RW Drive (my computer is a little old so is my motherboard) and like i said tommorrw my ram will be 2gb's again
Um ok, please read the stickies. We need information about your motherboard to help you. Unless your uncle wouldn't mind getting you a motherboard and processor (and RAM, and probably a video card), then we can not help you.
You're going to need a new... everything pretty much. PIIIs use a very old socket, and any processor made on that socket is now way out dated. Please reply whether you're willing to make a major overhaul or not.
You would probably be better off just buying something like this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1156607398079
What the :censored: ? this is 1000 times better: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...u=A455-2118%20E
well, if your uncle was gunna buy you parts, mgiht as well get you something new for a lower price....
i agree id love that its not my money to spend though, and what you mean by overhaul? i know its out of date i never really have a significant amount of money to buy anything i built this out of spare parts i could obtain its somthing atleast but i really need to upgrade anyone know any good cheap motherboards that i could get?
You will need to buy a new motherboard due to the motherboard for your P3 is probably an outdated one and new processor need a new motherboard. AMD processor works better in gaming while Intel processor is balance for both work and gaming. A normal P4 or AMD Athlon can perform just fine. Just an advice. If you are going for high-end processor, you should pick Intel Core 2 Duo and not AMD FX series because Intel's C2D performance is far better than AMD FX series.
what he means by complete overhaul is that effectively everything must go. In a literal sense. Your motherboard supports up to a 1GHz P3, that means about a 20-25% performance gain from that processor. If you changed your motherboard to a newer one, you'de need new RAM. You'de also need a new power supply to power the thing. In short you'de need "new everything" To put this into perspective, the system that master linked you to has a processor which is around 350% more powerful and has a lot more RAM.
i used Tuneup Utilities 2006 and thanks everyone looks like ill ask for a new Motherboard instead, and about RAM, I just installed 2gb's so thats ok for now
??? WTF how do you install 2GB kits on a system with sdRAM? I highly doubt that.... run CPUz on that system I highly doubt that system has a chipset with DDR1 support, nor one which supports that much memory. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and with a new motherboard.... you also need a new processor... and potentially DIFFERENT RAM.
