mg53 good luck!!! ACT- Assessment College Test. SOmething like that. To some people like me, it determines our future...
American College Testing, for those of you asking what it is. It is 1 of 2 very large tests that show how prepared you are for college, the other being the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)... As for what you should do to study, I cannot help you, as I was expelled before my Junior year and was not able to take the ACT or SAT, however from my Plan (the Pre-ACT) I was projected between a 30 and a 34. I am not a huge studier at all (actually, I can honestly say that I have never once 'studied', being that I have never ever looked over notes or read stuff just for preperation of a test, and I am in a college setting now), I just happen to have a very good visual memory, as well as a great memory for things I write down (I do take alot of notes when I read for homework and stuff, but I never review the notes I take)... So sorry, dunno what to tell you
Just like me i never study but when a test comes i just remember this stuff from writing notes when i never looked it over :]
the science, math and reading should be what give you trouble. science-become familiar with almost every kind of data representation: charts, graphs, etc. This is all the science part predominently is. Math-There are alot of formulas that you probably haven't reviewed since freshman year, go over the least recent things thoroughly and do an over-view of the more current things that you know/-------know. know the equation of a circle the quadratic formula pathagorean theorem know how to do problems invoving this symbol ! (pre-algebra) know how to solve problems with imaginary numbers know how to use the coordinate plane to its fullest extent (slope, coordinates, midpoint, reflections....) know the distance formula know how to solve for volume, area, perimeter percents scientific notation these are the things for the math section, that i remember being on the test alot. except for ! and imaginary numbers. Reading- people may laugh, but it is one of the hardest ones to complete. Forget that "you need to skim the passage" bs, at the end or beginning of every set of questions, it always asks you what the passage was about. I recommend speed reading programs, so you can get the gist of the passage a bit quicker. there isn't a reason to do poorly on the english section ;( it is composed of grammar
I took the ACTs last year. The math part was extremely easy...and the science section was full of graphs and data, but be sure to read the questions first. Most questions ended up being common sense and didn't even require the data haha. The English section...ummm...yeah, good luck I hate the English portion of these tests. -_-
I scored a 33 when I took the test 5 years ago. Not sure if much has changed but fortunately (or unfortunately) you either know the material or you don't. I highly doubt that in 3 months you'd be able to make a substantial gain in terms of material known, but there are other things you can do to improve. First, keep taking those practice tests. They help you learn the format and common wording of the questions, and allow you to become familiar with the sections you would struggle with. If you struggle with the science section I suggest you familiarize yourself with data interpretation and graph recognition. If math is giving you trouble keep working on problems to become more comfortable with them. And English is something that practice is the only way to help as well. But perhaps more important: don't fret too much. I had friends who took the exam and by all rights should have scored higher than they did, but because of stress and worry were unable to achieve their best. Don't study up until the last minute, get a good night's sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast before the exam. Good luck to you and all you strive for.
