I am composing a list and guide of hundreds of XP Hacks, Tweaks, and Tricks that users can use to speed up programs, deal with nasty spyware problems, and even give yourself administrator access to your school computers*!! Stay Tuned!!!

*Just because I mentioned school computers does not mean that I condone the use of the methods described in the guide to hack into your school or office computers.

    Alrighty, let's get this started....

    Registry Hacks

Here are several registry hacks that can be used in Windows XP. Before you try any of these make sure you backup your registry. More importantly, understand that changing the registry can have dire cosequences. Proceed with caution and at your own risk. To be able to edit the registry go to Start->Run, and in the Run box type 'regedit' without the single quotes. You can navigate using the left pane and make changes in the right pane.

NOTE:Altering the registry can have dire consequences, don't attempt these hacks if you are not sure of what you are doing. Always backup your registry before doing any work.

Move the Kernel to run in RAM.
Software or services running in RAM are always going to be faster that anything that has to pull data from the hard drive or virtual memory. The kernel is the core of the XP operating system, so by having it run in RAM we can speed up our computer.

NOTE: Only use this on machines with more than 256MB of installed RAM!!

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\COntrol\Session Manager\Memory Management. Once in Memory Management choose DisablePagingExecutive . Change the value of DisablePagingExecutive to 1. This will set the kernel to run in RAM. Changing it to 0 will set everything back to normal. Exit the registry and reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.

    Speed up the Start Menu.
Although the menu wait thing may look cool, I always found it disconcerting to have to wait for it to come up. After all I need to get in there... I dont care how cool it looks coming up. To change this navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. Choose MenuShowDelay, it should be set at the default (400), changing it to 0 will make the menu show up instantly. This may be a bit overwhelming, so experiment for yourself. I set mine to 50.

    Prefetch Parameters.
Prefetching refers to the bootup process of caching system boot files for faster loading of the operating system. This will really only help with the initial bootup of the system. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher. The values in this key can be 1, 2 or 3. 1 will prefetch application launch files, 2 will prefetch boot files and 3 will prefetch as many files as possible. To get an idea of what files it will attempt to load look in C:\Windows\Prefetch. As you can see, it is a substantial list.

    Cool Hacks

Creating a One-click shutdown and reboot shortcut
This “trick” allows you to shutdown or reboot your computer at a touch of a button, instead of going through the standard Windows process i.e. clicking the Start menu, choosing Shut Down, and then selecting the Shut Down or Restart option.

    1. Create a shortcut by right clicking on your desktop.

    2. Choose New > Shortcut

    3. The shortcut wizard appears. In the textbox, type “shutdown”.

    4. You can then press Next button (located on the bottom of the dialog box), name your shortcut to whatever you want, and then click on the Finish button.

A shortcut icon will then be put on your desktop automatically. Double clicking on it will shutdown your computer.

    Extra commands:

If you put these switch commands after the word “shutdown”, it may alter the overall shutdown command according to your preference. Note: make sure there are spaces between each command made.

-s … Shuts down the PC
    -r … Reboots the PC
-l … Logs off the current user
-t xx … Indicates the amount of delay (in seconds) you want to wait before the shutdown action is performed. Substitute xx for the number of seconds.
-c “message text” … Display a pop up message box after the shutdown command is initiated. The message must be used within quotation marks and there is a 127 max character limit.
-f … forces all running application to shut down

    For example:

    Typing the command… shutdown -s -t 20 -c “Later peeps!”

will do the following … shutdown your computer after a 20 second period and display a message box saying “Later peeps!"

Typing the command … shutdown -r -t 03 -c “Hasta la Vista! Rebooting computer now!” -f

will do the following … reboot your computer after a 3 second period, close any running application automatically and display a message box saying “Hasta la Vista! Rebooting computer now!”

Hack into computer networks in 10 easy steps
    1. Restart the Computer and just after it has finished loading the BIOS settings
press F8. Then it should come up with a screen saying run Windows XP. and
down the bottom, it will say press F8 again for more options. Press F8 Again.

    2. Select "Safe Mode" then press enter.

    3. When it has fully loaded up, click start then run. Type in "regedit" and press enter.

    4. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > software > Microsoft > Windows NT >
Current Version > Winlogon > Special accounts > UserList.

    5. In the right Panel, right click anywhere that is blank, and select New > DWORD
    Value.

    6. Name the new DWORD value whatever you want your new username to be.

    7. Doubble click the it after you have re-named it. and change the Value Data to "1".

    8. Close the registary editor, then click start > RUN, and type in "cmd".

    9. Command prompt will open. type in "net user @@@@@@@@@@ * " and instead
of putting in the @ symbols, type in what ever you named the DWORD value that you
created before. MAKE SURE YOU PUT AN ASTERISK (*) AFTER the DWORD VALUE
    THAT YOU MADE.

    10. It will say "Type a password for the user: " put whatever you want your password to be
there. Then when you press enter, it will say to confirm the password. Note, when you
are typing the password, it will not show up on the screen so type carefully. once you've
done that, you have created yourself an administrator account and can log on anytime you
    like as an admin.

    .Canadian eh?

I'm sure that this doesn't work on most school computer because of the no time to press safe mode. Our school computer just skip it , insted of counting down from 30-0 its automatically becomes 0.
So there no time for me to switch from normal to safe mode.

    Good hacks,

increase harddrive read/write performance(temporarily uses CPU clocks and RAM but IMO its worth it)
right click drive in mycomputer, go to properties then enable compression

prevent the filesystem from updating the time a file was last accessed(which is stupid and pointles and slows you down)
    Key Name: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Control\ FileSystem
    Name: NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Value: 1

The 'Hack my schools network' trick is useless, todays networks will disable regedit, safemode, cmd and sort. Still it's easy to gain acces, just with other ways.
