    all depends on what you need.

    I always get Winrar right away. easy to extract zip or rar files.

    I always get Avast Antivirus, Adaware, and Ewido Spyware

    Just a note, don't download imesh, or limewire

    Limewire has viruses >.<

    Use Direct Connect (DC++)

    For me....

    Firefox (w/ extensions), Winrar, Aim, MSN, Itunes, Limewire, utorrent, Photoshop, flash and dreamweaver

    i'd recommend anti-virus and anti-spyware too (you dont to mess up a new cpu)

    My old computer fried a while ago and I had the same problem.

    partition magic, partition the drive and save your stuff to the partition, then just plop in your XP disc when you need a reformat and keep your work...

    Like XMasterX says, it depends on what you need. I want splash some cash on some cool programs like Mic Flash & Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver is another nice program as well.

    When I first got my laptop from Dell, I did not have Microsoft word etc so make sure you have those on your computer, but I am sure you do.
