i went to turn on my comp today and it wouldnt go, so i tried everything under the sun (changed PSU, memory, hd, heck i even tried different m/b power switches ) and its just dead. ive had it for like 2 weeks lol so newegg is replacing it, i bought another e6300 to go with that and i bought a DFI Infinity 975x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136168 good choice? (dont really care i read tons of good reviews on this board and its O/C capabilities.) should be here tomorrow.
Personally, I would say go with an AMD. But like you said, you dont care about what others have to say
ATM, intel are doing better than AMD, its all a big cycle though e6300 is a pretty good choice hope this mobo doesnt crap out on you lol.
the e6300 is to put in the board that newegg is replacing i currently have a e6600 that is gonna go in the DFI. and i hate to break it to u but i own both AMD 64 (AM2) and 2 C2D, and Intel BLOWS AMD outta the water look at the top 4 in the super pi topic... (hint they are Intel) http://www.gamerenders.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=220648
Personally, I dont go by what other peoples say, but by own personal experiance, I have always been a buyer of AMD products and will continue to be a buyer of AMD products for years to come.
Highest end processor vs highest end processor. I wouldn't call 5 FPS, blow out of the water, by any means. http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?mod...2=469&chart=169 This is e6400 vs X2 4200 They didn't benchmark the e6300, but both the e6300 and X2 4400 are around $180.
Did it mention the AM2 Opteron, its 20 bucks more than the e6300. The socket 939 one could overclock pretty godly, why not it.
let me dig up the superpi thread... my opteron 165 got SP1m at 32 seconds i believe. my core 2 can get it in like 18... and the 4mb core 2s do better getting likr 14ish relatively easy. the whole intel sucks is entirely AMD marketting + intel being a dumbass and pushing the netburst architecture so much for the past few years... Intel is still evil though. ============================================ let me settle the performance dispute... on the whole, Core 2 is about 20% more powerful in a 32bit envroment and about 15% more powerful in a 64 bit enviroment. With good air cooling you can get a core 2 to 4GHz on Air. With good air cooling you could get an opteron or athlon FX to around 3.2. 24/7 useage you'de want to stick to around 3.0 on the k8s and around 3.6 on the Core 2s assuming you want them to last atleast a moderate amount of time under air. I had an opteron 165 which probably would have been capable fo 3.0GHz on stock volts... trust me... I know what I'm talking about, core 2 is a leap. on another note, nvidia and ATi chipsets have a bit better disk performance than intel chipsets so an athlon might feal slightly more responsive for small day to day things which are mostly harddrive limited. well, unless you use an nvidia or ATi chipset on the intel side... difference isn't that huge though... except in XP boot time. ============================================= as for the DFI infinity 975X/G I have one myself it is a decent board. Don't expect HIgh FSb overclocks though as it does not have a 1333mhz strap like the DS3. without increasing the volts to the board, I could get 387FSB. Use one of the newer BIOSes and set the drive strengths to 3. If i increase the vhipset voltage i could probably get over the 400FSB mark but I'm not going to. and FYI there is a reason why people say 975X with 6600 and higher and 965 with 6400 and lower... the FSB just doesn't scale enough on the 975 chipsets because their memory controllers and chipsets are set to run at lower latencies. I'm using the 10/26 BIOS... might consider the 11/16 BIOS, BUT BUT... if I fry the board my warranty is dead for using an unofficial BIOS... Merged Post: that's a GPU limited bench mark... try these http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2716&p=3 the 2.66GHz conroe is beating the 2.8GHz athlon FX by just a little more than 5fps... around 30-60 and I'll admit superpi is not a good measure of real world system performance... still doesn't hurt though... if you want good OCs now... http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bio..._FLAG&SITE=US otherwise... http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bio..._FLAG=A&SITE=NA i'd advise the latter alternative... flash later when the official BIOS is launched...
I was comparing the lowend C2Ds to the now cheaper AM2 models. I don't think the FX series got a price drop, so they still suck compared to the C2D counterparts at the same price. Also on the 4 Ghz overclock is that on the e6400 or on the higher models with the 4mb L2 Cache. I chose that benchmark only because everything else wasn't realistic. Noone does most of the stuff they have on those lists and fear was the most normal game IMO. Although in the Quake 4 timedemo, the C2D showed its improvement.
a 4GHz overclock is possible on a 6400 if your motherboard can mantain 500FSB. Few can. the 6400 probably OCs better than the 6600 and 6700 as it has less l2 cache and thus fewer cache defects. and the x2 3800+ as a CPU is about the same price/performance as an e6300, maybe a little higher. AMD boards are a lot cheaper though, and so is RAM. On the cheaper side of things AMD is probably the way to go. Especially if you won't be OCing ever...
