File Missing

    this is what happens i turn on my comp and it goes to a black screen
    and it says this
    "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt :System32/Drivers/pci.sys

    it says i can repair it using the original cd but i dont think i have it
    any help would be appreciated

    Borrow a copy from your friend's.

    doesnt it only work if they are the same kind of computer though

    I had an error like that before, but mine was a NTFS error, I had to do a repair install(it doesn't delete any files,just fixes the copy of windows on your computer). Maybe that'll work.

    you need the same version of windows, thats all that matters.

    like Home, p.r.o, retail or OEM, etc...

    would a system recovery cd work?

    no, all a recovery disk is set it back to all the settings when you first bought it from the store.

    Go to DOS and boot the CD. Load it and press the button it states to repair it. Done and reboot the comp.

    Try to do like he said borrow a disk from a friend. All it has to be is the same version of windows im sure
