ok i use itunes 6 and it works great but since im getting one of the new gen iPods, im going to need itunes 7 to get music onto it because itunes 6 isnt compatible. my pc installed itunes 6 on one try and worked flawlessly, but itunes 7 on the other hand wont even install. everytime i try to intall it, after about 5 seconds through the process i get an error message which says: There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A Program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. and after that error i click ok and it say rolling back action, starts to install quicktime and i get an error that says: Error 1606.Could not access network location. any clue on what that means and what i can do to fix it so it will actually install? i've searched around and looked at the apple website and have heard nothing about an update or anything so i unfortunately have to find a way to get this thing to work instead of using itunes 6.
ok so im pretty sure the problem is quicktime won't install and in turn itunes wont install because quicktime is needed for itunes to install, unfortunately, i don't know how to get quicktime to install because i get this stupid error 1606 every time. and i dont think it has anything to do with my internet connection, as it is running just fine.
Try this: 1. Re-download iTunes 7 and install. Maybe the first download of iTunes 7 is corrupted somehow. 2. Try un-installing iTunes 6 and reboot. Then install iTunes 7. 3. Un-install iTunes 6 and reboot. Defrag, run a tune-up utility, & then install iTunes 7. Report back if those work or don't work.
ive tried downloading itunes 7 from other sites other than apple once the apple one didnt work. still nothing, then tried downloading an earlier version of itunes 7, still nothing. uninstalle ditunes 6 and tried those things again, still nothing. it works until it tries to install quicktime and i get the error message then. Merged Post: nevermind, i found a program that can add music to your iPod without the use of itunes. thanks for the help though
