I am thinking about upgrading my gfx card. At the moment i have a 256MB G-ForceFX Nvidia graphics card (APG). I now have a PCI slot and would like to spend as little as possible under £100 anyway. So if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Also thinking about upgrading ram soon, at the moment i have 768MB ram.
PCI, the best card available is an x1300 which I have only seen on US manufacturers. I have the nVidia FX5500 256mb which is apparently the best that I've found in the UK.
im not from hte UIK but 100 pounds would be about 220 CAD is hte same model he mentioned. if your current model is SLI compatable i reccomend getting one that works with it that way its like ---.
ROFLMAO. Dude, no offense, but 1) It's and old geforceFX and 2) it's AGP. How could it be SLi Compatable? Not many good choices out there for PCI. Nothing is really out there that is worth the money for an upgrade, meaning you would be paying money for a relativly tiny increase of preformance. I would suggest saving up for a more complete upgrade; but that is just me. What are the rest of your computer specs?

PCI and PCI-e are entirely diferent. also no motherboard has achipset which is capable of housing both an AGP and a PCI-e interface. if it is done, it's usually doenw ith an addon chip and quality is crap. so do you have PCI express which barely came out in 04, or do you have PCI which was out since the mid 90s, or do you have AGP?
i guess your right i never paid much detail to what it said but i foccused more on the type of video card.
I am unable to tell you what my motherboard is at the moment. I can tell you later on. I bought my motherboard new about 4 months ago. So it's pretty new. Just now i'm 80% sure it's an AGP card i am using, but i also was sure there was a PCI express slot in it. It has slots for boosters as well.
There is a board which supports pci-e x16 (run @ x4 however) and agp x8, but as you said it's crap. http://www.asrock.com/product/775Dual-VSTA.htm I also suggest a bigger upgrade, if you only got a PCI slot. If you got AGP a x800GTO will be fine. (just make sure your psu will be able to handle it)
I have a asrock 939dual sata mobo and that had a AGP, pci-e and pci-e16 slots. Have a look at some 7600 or maybe you can find a 7800 for under £100. Generally the higher the number the better it is.
I have an Asus A8v-X motherboard. It says: Expansion Slots: 1 x AGP 8X Slot 2 x PCI Express x1 slots 3 x PCI slots So it can support PCI express. Why is everyone saying it can't ?
Ah ok the x1 are those booster cards things aren't they ? What exatly do they do and can they be used with AGP graphics cards ?
as far as i know there aren't any decent cards which can be used on PCI-e 1x. AGP 8x offers 4 times the bandwidth and lwoer latency as comapred to to PCI-e 1x. card recomendations x1600pro x800GTO both are deent cards and offer similar performance/$ the x800GTO has the potential to be unlocked to an x800XT though. a nice 30% performance boost
