I just need to know if these are the best parts for the job. I do alot of simple art with large canvas' (such as applying maybe PS filters on a wallpaper or larger sized .psd). I don't play a huge amount of graphic intensive games, but I would like to play a few games (like FEAR, BF2142/BF2, Oblivion, etc.) on fairly high, if not max settings... Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811146029 2x DVD-RW: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827152076 Floppy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16821152005 HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822148140 Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102045 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817256008 Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227139 Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131028 Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819115003 I really, in particular, need to know if the memory will work in the motherboard, and if the PSU is powerful enough to run everything, outside that its all compliant. I would also like to know if any of you have heard about the cooling capabilities and airflow of that case, as well as how loud that case would be with 7 120MM and 1 80MM NZMT fans in it (do their fans generally run soft?). Spending limit is $1600, and I would prefer to take it within $15 either way.
That video card is $409, and it is only DX9. Had on another $60 to your budget and you got yourself a 8800GTS which is DX10 compliant. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130071 The ram is nice, but John keeps on going on about Team Extreme RAM so I'd probably listen to him. The RAM and the mobo will work fine. Do you really need 2xDVD-RW?
I won't move up to an 8800 for the simple concept that I won't be moving to Vista for atleast another year, and I don't play alot of graphically intensive videogames or do alot of 3D rendering. Games will continue to be made in DX9 for approximately anther year, and all DX10 games will be capable of being played on DX9 for quite some time. The price will also drop in a year, and I will also have the money to spend on a card like that in 1 year. So the answer to the 8800 is a no. As for the ram, the reason I asked is because the motherboard states that it is a 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 timing required and the memory I have selected is a 4-4-4, but the 2.1v is there for it, so I will wait for either Xelink, or someone else whom I know is for sure is experienced with that sort of thing. Yes, I need 2xDVD-RW, don't bother asking why lol
Its for the long processes of graphics strings I do, aka larger than normal large art. I just don't do the 3D rendering that DX10 is known to be insanely great for like Terragen 2 will have. Also, the main reason I don't play them is because I know my computer can't handle them. Once I have a computer I know can handle them I am sure I will get into graphically intense games, but as said games for the next year or more wont be using DX10 as a minimum requirement and will function on DX10, and its $250 less than the GTX, which is what I plan to get later this year varying on new product lines.
Switch the PSU to this one: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=PS-E5150GH&c=fr&show=r Basicly the same thing, minus the name (and minus like $40.) With the extra money saved on the PSU, I would get this memory module: http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-44410-800mhz-...16b9cf16d153007 Another thing, unless you plan on overclocking, that board and its features will be basicly useless to you. I would suggest a cheaper board (perhaps a Biostar TForce, etc.) Now it's time for my to emphasize the dumb decision to get that graphics card. Not only is it extremely expensive, and it's only DX-9, but there is an 8800GTS for only $60 more that outpreforms it. Nonetheless, I would not get either of those cards. At this time I would probably get a 7900GS for $160. For that price, it is a bargin and it will do nearly everything that you need it to.
The only bad part about the parts you listed is that I would highly prefer (as would my mom, whom is buying it) to buy from newegg at one time. Also, normally I would have gotten the x1950xt for $200, but its currently on backorder. Also, in the future I do plan on OC'ing this computer to keep it up to par, but for now I don't plan on it. And upgrades to the overall system may not happen for 3-4 years, so I wanted to keep it fairly decent (minus the GPU, ill probably upgrade that in a year and drop some extra memory). But if you can find something good on newegg that beats what I currently have on there, I am happy to listen lol As for the 7900GS, I do plan on getting a couple of high end games and running them on max settings. As I said, the main reason I don't play high end graphics games currently is because my system just can't handle them (it hardly handles WoW lol).
But do your really need AA/AS on max; would you even notice the difference? Is it really worth having AA/AS on max (compared to near max) for a premium of $250?
Its not my money, its hers, lol so unless there is a better way to spend the money, then I am not too concerned about it.
The better way of spending it would be to BUY the 7900GS and get the better RAM (Team Xtreme) as you are looking to do more in Photoshop than in gaming for the time being. And when/if you turn to gaming as you say you most likely will, the 7900GS WILL give you everything you need to play those games for the next 1-2 years until you said you were willing to drop more $ on a DX10 compatible card. I will also vouch for the PSU from eWiz right here. And if you are still unwilling to purchase from two/three separate sites, well, you're missing out. P.S. TankGuys sells your Mobo for $10 cheaper as well.
i'd get the enhance ENP PSU http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=PS-E5150G...ea9cc771c8ad72# silverstone uses the same unit, as in silverstone purchases the base units from enhance, changes one or two things and marks them up 50% use the cash diference to get an 8800GTS insteed http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130071 BAM... free bundled game too. and not to sound like an nVidia fanboy, but the 8800GTS beats two x1950XTX in crossfire a good chunk of the time, andbeats a single one almost all the time. Then there is directX 10 and SM4 support which is nice. as for power, it uses about the same amount as the x1950XTX so dont' worry. all I have to say. also if you plan on OCing the CPU, i'd suggest a 3rd party heatsink such as the scythe MINE. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...82E16835185023R newegg only has open boxes, otherwise try elsewhere
as far as i know, the only major e-tailer who caries it at a reasonable price is ewiz. Also newegg doesn't have it, i tried there. also, if you don't want to spring for the 8800GTS, and you for one reason or another cannot get an x1950XT, just go for a 7900GTO. It uses the same RAM as the 7900GTX and the core is clocked the same, it's just it use sa diferent BIOS so you can later flash the BIOS for 7900GTX performance for 50% less.
Alright, I have the okay to buy it from the two shops from mi madre, its a little over, but I said I'll cover for it. The last question is about the case and mobo/memory. All the reviews on newegg (all 19) say that the cooling is EXTREMELY quiet and very, very efficient, while the case remains light, but have you heard anything about it Xelink? Also, I know I asked this before, but could you clarify with a little bit more detail as to how/why my card will/will not work? You said something about being able to change the timings if needed or something?
i don't really know anything about that case to be honest... looks liek it was made for water cooling an x1950XTX woudl work fine, it's just at the price point it is foolish considering you can get a fair amount better performance out of a 8800(which can play DX 10 games) or comapreabel performance out of the XT or 7900GTO for 150$ less. In full seriousness, the 7900GS would probably be a good enough card if you didn't want to spend.
