I'm trying to setup a new pc, I'm really having a hard time choosing parts and everything, I'm a newbie to this one. I'm trying to get a decent setup dedicated mostly in using photoshop and games, my current budget is about $1000 (might add at least 200 if I get a decent paycheck this week) minus the monitor I'm about to buy. can someone help me on this pls

just off the top of my head and i assume you don't want to hardcore overclock or anything

    these are newegg rates -

    biostar Tforce p965 100$
    e6400 220$
    2GB RAM 230$
    ENHANCE ENP PSU 70$
Scythe MINE HSF 35$(if you need a more portable system i'll look up something else)
case 50$ centurion 5 on the cheap ro get w/e
    250GB HDD w/ PRM 80$
    DVD burner 30$
    vid card - 7900GS

I'll dig up better links tomorrow.

if you're nto gaming then you can drop to a lower card.

I'll try to look these parts up, I hear overclock a lot but I don't really know how to do it plus it has some side effects on the PC. I got one question though, my current PSU has a 300watt but the specs of my current video card (7600GS) has a minimum req. of 400watts works fine but is this ok?

Depends on the ampere, which probably isn't enough. Check out on the side of the PSU how many ampere the v12 rail has. I'd still suggest buying a 400W+ PSU with dual v12 rails.

Btw for a E6300/6400 I suggest gigabyte DS3, overall very good.

yeah, dev is right. though if it says 300 amps right on the psu, its preobably lying... I'll let Xelink handle that bit.

For a computer, I built an AM2 system for around 700, and then you can save up money to get the K8L, or the 8800, once it goes down a lil. course, K8L is coiming out soon, either q4 of this year or q1 of next year.

300 Amps? You mean 300 Watss :P It's has probably around ~17A on only 1 v12 rail. You just gotta check it.

    an e6400 @ 3GHz isn't week by any standards.

as for overclocking, it's the process or running a part above the manufacturers specifications.

Here's something to consider though, the e6400 is made on the same assembly line as the much more expensive x6800, the main diference between the two is that a few small data registers are altered on the chip to lower the CPU multiplier and in this case a portion of the l2 cache. You can physically set the chip back up to what it was designed to run at with ease. an e6400 at stock voltage will handle 2.93GHz just as easily as an x6800, especially if you get a better cooler as it will probably run cooler than it would at stock.

also, you don't have to do this straight out front, you can always wait until you feal you need the extra power - do it as a way to put off an upgrade.

i had this, it can be flashed to DVD RAM if needed.

DO NOT GET ONE OF THE ABOVE WITH THE PWOER SUPPLY THE PSU IS CRAP, YOU'DE WANT TO THROW IT AWAY SO DON'T PAY EXTRA

if you want a more expensive case then I hear that the coolermaster stacker and the thermaltake armor are excellent cases, they just run about 100$ more.

yeh, give me a bit to look for RAM. Kingston has a valueRAM kit out which uses micron d9 ICs(which are normally used in very high end RAM) but i don't trust them they tend to switch what they use randomly.

also check around a bitfor better prices,

my recomendation for RAM off the bat is this stuff
    http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-3338-p-1690.h...3dff7292b42fef8

it can easily hit over 1GHz with acceptable voltages, it uses more or less the same ICs as the DDR2-1066 stuff

it's just i think i might be able to find something compareable for less.
