    Hi All,

i have a couple of problems, both are probably simple to fix but im pretty crap with the techy side of PC's

1 - my PC take an age to load when i initially turn it on. This happened after i had to reinstall windows so im guessing i forgot to activate something. I have DirectX installed but this hasnt helped

2 - My keyboard also has re-arranged its settings after the above re-instalation. My symbols are all over the place, but the actual typing keys are fine

Any advice on the above would be greatly appreciated :)

When booting up, enter your bios (I press F8, but it might be different for other mobos) and then look for boot order. Make sure your Hard drive is first. I suspect you have it booting from a CD or floopy first

As long as HD is first I guess. Its unlikey you wont be able to boot from your HD

Hi Phili (and anyone else good with pcs)

i tried the above and have put HD first but it still seems to be taking ages. On my list there is boot list

    Boot 1
    Boot 2
    Boot 3

I put the HD as boot one

BUT when i went to pick it i also have about 4 options with HDD in the title

    HDD - 0
    HDD - 1
    HDD - 2
    HDD - 4

Is this what it should say? An in my boot list (1,2,3) do i have to pick other things other that the HD?

    Thanks
    Daz

did you try spyware, virus checks? that can slow your load time.

    get adaware or ewido

    get the current updates

restart, and go into safe mode (press F8 when you get to the window's splash screen)

    do checks...

Hmm, its unlikley you have 8 HDD. I dont know, maybe you have more than one operating system.

It might not even be your boot order, do what master says (haha). And also do a defrag. Beware, they can take along time (>5 hours)

and actually, philli, you would want it in this order:

    floppy
    cd/dvd-rom
    hard drive

if your hard drive ever messes up,you are able to boot up with floppy or cd/dvd

Hmm, I heard over at cnet that a slow boot-up is caused by the boot order. If I want to boot from a CD I just tap F11 to bring up the boot order :)

yes, but not all bios's have a boot order thing...

boorting, as from bios to windows, yeah, it takes a few eztra seconds, but into windows has nothing to do with boot order..
