the only people I'd advise vista to are those with DX10 cards, 2GB+ RAM and a high end dual core processor(Athlon x2 or core 2 duo) that effectively puts it into the 2000$+ category($5000 if you buy a system form dell, alienware, HP, etc.)

I'd also advise you to dual boot windows XP still since as was said it's bound to ahve bugs and i wouldn't trust 3rd party support.

remember when XP came out it took over a year for the market to adapt. Driver support will be crap initially, chances are our camera, your scanner or some other similar item just won't work like it did in XP or 2000.

Same goes for programs, a lot fo programs might not work right. Most should but don't bet mission critical programs will work.

Then there is DRM to deal with...

    again on the waiting theory...

and FYI when i get it I'll disable the bloated(albiet surprisingly efficient[work is offloaded to GPU like it is under OSX]) GUI, I dont' give a damn if my window is translucent, I look at the inside of the windows, not the border.

I'll get it. From what I've seen, it's looking good.

I tend to not go looking into negative discussion around the web, regarding Vista because half of what these people say is false.

You speak a lot of sense, although now that I (finally) have Linux working on my new PC, it's surprising how little I give a damn.

If I'm not mistaken you are taking about the Express Upgrade to Vista deal most stores are offering when you buy a Vista Capable/Premium Computer?

I remember looking into this offer since I'm dying for Vista. Basically I believe the offer goes from Now till July of 07 or something.

I know for a fact BUSINESS gets Vista at the end of this month but consumers don't get the other versions until January of 07

so your saying your getting Vista at the end of this month? Unlss I've got my facts wrong you don't get it until its officially released to consumers so can you explain this to me somehow?

It IS true, only because Vista is still in beta. No one knows what will the final product will look like. One thing I know is that Vista will be CPU consuming. I am not going to switch, I'll buy a Mac. Less restriction, more freedom.

Meanwhile, I'll stay with XP and Suse 10.1. I'm satisfied.

I'm giving Vista a flat NO. It is just a prettier version of XP SP2.

Yup, I have vista on my laptop. It's nothing like the theme that anyone has.
