world of warcraft is the best
but you need a lot of free time and money
Guild wars is more for players who want to play a nice MMORPG
but not want to put much money into it and they don't really need a lot of free time because they pay one time and so they can play with no time restrictions, wow does because you buy a card for 2 months i think and it's better to play it as much as possible else it's just waste of money.
That's how i see it but i think wow is the best but I play on private

    ^ #1 reason right there

I've played both games and the MAJOR turn off of GW is the battle system.
In GW'S a warrior is not able to attack and move at the same time. and when I played GW's there are different worlds. When you leave out of town you wont see any other players not like WoW, Unless your in a party so you would share the world

Okay, I've played both for quite a while...And here are my opinions.
Guild Wars: I finished the game with all my...whatever chars. There all have 15k armor....And EVERYTHING is finished and the only thing that was left for me to do was The Deep and Urgo's Warren or whatever that was..I pretty much only monked in that game and always got shouted at when we got wiped in the..."Elite Mission". Another thing I couldve done was farm but that was so unstrategic I just quit on that.So I quit that game and went back to..
World of Warcraft: I love this game because for some reason you can actually do LOTS of stuff. When I'm bored and don't want to do missions or anything else I just hit up Battlegrounds. Yes I know that you can do that in Guild Wars but wasn't that fun for me. And in this game I can use more than 8 skills...So much more freedom too...With jumping and swimming. Also like the atmosphere of the places..Like duskwood and ...other places. Classes aren't as much as Guild Wars but I think that they're way more improved then the Guild Wars class skills.

I've tried both and to be honest, Guild Wars had me hooked on to it more.

I think WoW is much better then GuildWars
I'm playing it for almost 2 years i guess
But yea i know the storyline of warcraft so it made
me curious , i bought WoW and it was different then i thought.

but as a fact : Equipments = Power

The battlegrounds got screwed up because of the twinks
Twink is a character of a rich lvl 60 , so they got good gear
and in lvl 60 battlegrounds is skill and teamplay VERY important !
I'm not saying equips aren't needed , I'm just saying that without
a good listening group and plan you are doomed

owyea , if you're 60 then you should find a good guild where
you can do much end game instances , then the game is really fun.
If you aren't allowed to go with them , then it really sucks

Anyways i would go for WoW ! , and when you don't wanna grind to get lvl up.
then do something else , there are ALOT of other things to do in WoW
Thousends of Quests for the most stupid or coolest rewards and money and experience points. WoW owns all if you are in a good guild

thats all i am saying ,

and i liked the raid system that was set up. but lvling 1-50 was BORING. once i got to 60, thats when the fun began.

So, six months have passed since i made this topic, trying to see which game i should choose. About a week after this, i finally got the money and could afford one of the games. Going by personal opinion of what i heard, i chose WoW. After getting the game, i install it and leave it to download the patch while i run and make myself a credit card.

Everything goes nice and smoothly, the summer vacation just began, so i had 3 WHOLE months of WoW at my disposal.
It took me approximately 2 months of playing (and not just any playtime, i'm talking about playing from 9 am to 4 am daily) to reach 60. Those 2 months were worth every single cent i put in that game. Instances, the PvP, gathering materials for items, leveling up, doing quests, everything was worth it.
But you haven't seen anything until you've reached 60. Basically, at 60, you only have 2 choices of what to do next: you raid or you PvP, and both of them will provide a great experience.

Raiding: Getting in a good guild will be somewhat difficult, depending on your gear and experience. However, once you get in, you'll just be stunned by the sight of 20 to 40 people coordinating their actions and working together to reach a common goal. Progressing through the instances, taking down that boss that the guild's been tuck at for 2 weeks, getting great gear, it's pure awesomeness.

PvP: Here your road splits again, as you have 2 options of PvP-ing: normal PvP (either one on one PvP (attacking an enemy player, sometimes known as "ganking") or doing the new Silithus/WPL World PvP) OR joining Battlegrounds (Warsong Gulch - available from level 10, Arathi Basin - available from level 20 or Alterac Valley - available from level 50) , each of the BGs with its own objectives. Upon gathering enough Honor points from PvP-ing, you will be able to purchase gear, same goes with the BG reputation (gaining rep from battling in a faction's BG will permit you to buy different gear from their vendors).

Even though there are 2 options, sticking to just one of them will be enough to keep you playing the game.
HOWEVER, the game does require a hell lot of time in order to reach 60 and get good gear (normal instances ranging from an hour to even three hours, with raid instances taking over 2, 3 hours), so unless you have enough time on your hands, you won't accomplish much.
An hour? Can't accomplish anything at all.
    Two hours? You're getting somewhere.
Three hours? If you find a group right as you log in, you can even do a normal instance at 60.
Over fours hours? Get yourself in your guild's raid, cuz it's enough to get it done.
In the end, WoW is a time-consumer (then again, what MMORPG isn't?), but well worth the money, as the graphics tend to be good enough to run on an average computer, despite its somewhat cartoon-ish look.

Well, that's about WoW, now on to its adversary:

    Guild Wars.
The vacation ends, the school comes and i have to abandon my beloved hard work until the next vacation. Not much time passes and i contact a friend (the one i've been argueing with, check the first post) and ask him if i could borrow his GW account. He accepts, gives me the password and i become the owner of a Necromancer on a RP server. First impression is that the graphics looks way more "mature" (if it can be put that way) compared to WoW. First quest, first enemies killed and i slowly, slowly, gain levels. The very first thing that bothered me, and still does, is that there is absolutely no world PvP at ALL. When you exit a city, you just get your own copy of the realm, so, if the non-existence of World PvP was not enough, you cannot actually meet any other person outside a city unless you take them to party with you.

The quests of the game are a bit more diverse and feel like there's a good-worked storyline behind them. Enemies also look nicely done and with their own abilities. Another thing that i really, really liked is the spell visuals, with the way the character positions itself when casting a spell (in the case of the necromancer, he is lifted above the ground, with his hands stretched out, head tilted upwards and shaking, like in a trance).

However, there are other downsides that i didn't like about it, and one of it is the lack of movement freedom. Basically, you can just move forward, backwards, turn and strafe, with jump completely MIA. Also, swimming is not present. Another major issue with the movement is the fact that the terrain has fixed pathways, rendering you unable to walk off cliffs in order to reach the bottom faster, forcing you to walk a considerable distance. I found myself getting angry because i couldn't walk over just one small wedge in the ground and having to walk beside it.

I'll be perfectly honest with you and say that i didn't reach level 20, being completely bored of the game after reach level 11, so i cannot offer enough information about the endgame content of GW, but i can say that even though you don't have WPVP, you can enter a guild and have battles with other guilds (which quite frankly sound pretty sweet, if you'll manage to reach 20)

    Conclusion?
WoW is a great game, and the monthly fee tells you that you're going to pay for something that a normal MMORPG won't offer, which is entirely true. In GW, you WILL be playing a game that's worth the money, however you can get bored after some time, because it lacks the most important MMORPG feature: world pvp (however that may not be the only reason).
So, i say, World of Warcraft was worth the fee and money for the game itself, and if you have enough time and money at your disposal, then BUY the game and be ready for an awesome experience.

~Simbolic, level 60 Night Elf Priest on Dragonmaw ;)

(everything above is from my very own personal thoughts on both games)

    Edit: Typos

WoW takes it for me, I was addicted to that game, had to break away from it eventually

After I found they are making quest items in Burning crusade better than my tier 2 + 3 I just quit

    All that work for nothing

You have some good points there. However, it seems that you dont know much about GW. Getting level 20 is not a goal in that game, once you have become 20 things start getting interesting..

This doesnt mean you will like it though. :P
I myself loved the PvP aspect of the game, maybe because i was playing in a higher ranked guild but I think GW's PvP and PvE are very separate from each other.
I havent done any descent PvE and was still able too compete with the best guilds out here.
(not being able to jump, I didnt even notice this! :D why jump anyway)

As someone allready mentioned, GW is more of a PvP game and WoW seems to have both..

i personally like them equally, excpe thta guild wars has no monthly fee, so whenever i am short on cash i go to that etc.

but all in all two different type of gaming styles and they suit different people :)

I play WoW... but i must say that it becomes boring after some times... ofc they do upgrades i had whole t2/itemset/ and then the naxx came. I had to do it all over again raiding... raiding... raiding... now i have 5 parts from naxx and i am bothered... i even did all the quests i could... for me WoW is over but after two years of intensive play... I've played GW too just some info you have more than 8 spells but you only pick 8 for quests or tactics... PvP system sucks... like its big deal to fight with koreans... its about pvp arena how its done... in GW its always the same... just to say this that you dont have to pay wow if you dont want, you just need to find a way how... Become a GM... LoL... well my vote goes to WoW but i am not playing it for 1 year... i am just lvling my friends chars to 60s it takes me like 2 weeks lol... im --- but now ill settle down... BTW wow destroys your real life becouse you are paying it... you think i need to lvl 20 lvls so thats 15 days i have to play like crazy becouse i dont have money for next month... sucks but its true... Playing games is not good so my advice to you is dont buy a game that takes about 3 hours a day to make somthing in it...
