Its a modification that allows a group leader to setup a group, and create a forum (through their own control panel), allow you to change your password to the forum, and moderate the forum itself. This doesn't make it invisible, and it doesn't allow you to make your own member groups (if it did, that would be great, but it would still be hard for you to encourage the staff to install such a mod). This still leaves open the possibility for someone hacking the leaders account, getting the hash code for the forum, saving all the posts and pruning the entire forum, leading to all your information being stolen, work reproduced, etc.

I know you guys are going to continue to say "let us create an off-site forum" but its really not necessary, you are allowed a chat room to talk, and you have AIM, YIM, MSN, etc. where its not public domain. As said, if you wanna run a forum of your own... go to a site like... http://www.mypunbb.com/, http://www.invisionfree.com/, http://www.forumhoster.net/, etc.

Or just go to this link and pick some random site and make a forum there:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free+...G=Google+Search

then just advertise it in your signature. It doesn't hurt the site, it doesn't really hurt the crew, and it gives you far more control over something you have virtually no control of on this site.

We will not be giving crews their own private forums.

Us mods would have to moderate it, just because its a crew forum, doesnt mean you get to have an unmoderated section by us gmods, because Gamerenders is still responsible for whats going on in that sub section.

It would create more work for the admin. As mentioned, he would have to create user groups, passwords etc, then every time someone left, the password have to be changed, and so its overall alot more work.

It adds to the already loaded down server, making things even slower for the site and the users.

The reason are requirements are so high, is because we have a problem with every tim, dick, joe and jerry wanting to create crews. Setting the high requirements prevents just any random person from doing so, and it also helps with the credit inflation problem that we have here on the forums. So no it is not pointless.

The reason we dont allow crews to have outside forums outside of GR if they want to be an offical crew here, is because it attracts members to a forum other then GR. It IS advertising. Its practically a new forum for the most part, with its own resources etc. So duh, common sense on that as to why we dont allow it.

Whats wrong with using the thread, and a chatroom, and msn, aim, yahoo, xfire, those various ones. There are a few other successful crews here at GR and those options seem to work fine for them, even with their members spread across quite a few time zones.

So like I said, no we wont be adding private forums for crews and I have stated more then enough reason as to why, as well as having given reasons for all the other questions that came up in this thread.

    That's dumb...

So more or less we pay 5000 and have 50- rep for virtually no reason? And the reason you won't lets us have a PRIVATE forum is because of advertising? Think about that for a second. It's called "Private" for a reason. And the resources would be shared either way.

So your points... are nothing. They didn't prove anything. I can understand maybe not allowing us space on actual GR forum, but not able to have a PRIVATE forum for the "Crew" is kinda dumb... It's like saying, "You paid for this food, But I can't give it to you." I don't think people paid 5000 creds and worked on getting their rep high to be put in a thread thats hardly looked upon.

And chat rooms? Awesome idea... The last time i used an actual chat room was when i was into the whole Poke'mon and Digimon phase.

    IRC's are great.

But about the private crew forums, I agree. Logic said its advertising and getting members to join there??

It'd be whole lot easier than getting GR crew forums. And yea, its private, meaning you don't want anybody other than crew members.

So yea that doesn't make sense, but the 5000 credit and explanation on why a crew forum here is not allowed are respectable.

I have toi admit spending 5000 creds used to be alot, but now with the inflation of credits it isnt really that much, yes youve spent ur credits and didnt get much in return but the fact is you knew the terms when you spent those credits and you cant expect to get any more than you currently have, if there is a problem that th emods think could happen if this idea was carried out then it wont go ahead whether you like it or not. The only way i cld see maybe this happening is to create another off topic subforum for clans and maybe that could happen and all that would do it clear up the off topic section of all the clans topics.

Dem and Logic both just posted up a shedload of valid reasons, just claiming that they didn't prove anything doesn't make them wrong. If you actually thought about it, you would agree with them, and stop this pointless arguement, since even if their reasons were invalid they're not going to do it anyway.

GR mods are not like parents. You can't just keep whining until you get your way.

i agree with the points made in every case but an offsite crew isnt advertising it is an offsite forum for the crew and only the crew.

even if the site gets leaked we will not validate anyone that wouldnt be from our crew.

and if the site gets any bigger then the crew you could just cancel the crew on gamerenders. and it would be a punishment for doing so.

we would be using a chat room except if you aren't online when it is said the message is deleted but in a forum you can see the message even if you are 3 days late.

it is mainly just for the organisation of the crew.

just give it a trial if it doesnt work then things can go back to normal.

i agree totally. We paid 5000 for the crew, so a crew subforum for every crew would be nice :P

I agree to that, but in ArtisticGFX it is very wellmade.

Okay... so go make your own private forum and keep it 100% secret. You get a bad seed in your site that lets members outside connect via his account to view everything, or you remove a member and he goes off and spams the URL, the leaders and co-leaders of your crew will be banned, your stuff will all have been used and downloaded by members outside the crew.

You can always TRY to keep a second set of forums secret if your really THAT obsessed with it, but when you get banned for having a crappy member, I'm just going to laugh and say, "I told you so".

Also, Shokaku, you can always just hide your forums and password them for crew-only access, and then have public forums for all the other members where you give out your own resources publically, etc.

As for the chat room, ever heard of idling? Plenty of people leave their computer online all night, simply let them sit in the channel and put their name with a |AFK or _AFK or something like that after it, keep the channel secret (if its IRC then mode +S) and no one will know that you even have the channel outside the crew members and they can read the messages after they wake up or get back from school or w/e.

As for shaggy speaking on this, he is a busy man, being the owner at over 5 well sized sites. He respects the moderators decisions and in about 95% of the cases will back all of us up in the matter. So far there is no valid reasons that have not been countered by myself or logical with a moreso valid reason.

If you want another forum, you can advertise it, or just run it off the site, and keep your whole "tZ crew member" thing in your signature, and anything you guys put up for resources on this site, or selling something people will still know that its from a tZ member. It IS an off-site, and it does draw attention FROM GR, and is not bringing anymore activity to the actual forum, so therefore its harmful, if even in the least bit, to the overall forum.

well to be honest, I don't think shaggy really has a say in it, if anything he'd agree with what all the moderators are saying. It's too much work that'll end up going to ---- when the crew dies (if and when).

Dementia, your saying that a crew forum... Made specifically for the crew... Something that dosn't average over 20+ people... Is going to draw away sooo many people that GR will just cease to be a good forum?

It's a well known forum... A seperate off site GR forum hosted by some one in the group wouldn't be that big of a deal. Expecially if we have all the forums password protected.

GR, a site thats down almost every 15 mins from sooo many people being on. I understand what your talking about... I now understand why a personal/private crew forum would be bad... especially to this site o_O -.-'

so by trying to get you're way, you're now going to diss on gamerenders for having too many connections?
