ok guys finally i pulled together the final funds to finish off my rig tell me what u think. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz Gigabyte 965P-S3 2x 1GB OCZ GOLD Dual Channel DDR-2 (800mhz) ATI x1600 512mb/ PCIe 160 GB Western Digitial SATA 22" Widescreen Samsung Monitor (225bw) BF2142 Ed. G5 Laser gaming mouse ( im a BF fanatic) so guys what kind of shape am i in?
should have gotten an x850XT or a GeForce 7600GT over the x1600. proc begs for some overclocking(3.0GHz shouldn't be too hard on it) 333FSB and set the RAM 1:1 with tweeked timings and subtimings and BAM seems nice on the whole though
yea i have a AMD 64 3800+ with the almost identical board and memory that i OCed up to 2.8 on the cpu, so once this comes and i get everything installed i will definately OC this new setup .
seems a nice setup, but for a gaming setup id say mabye spend a little more on the graphics... that or go fora 7600 instead.
I would have gone for a better graphics card, and possibly a better board. The mobo has everything you'd want, but what about overclocking features?
DS4 doesn't clock as well as DS# http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Mother...ame=GA-965P-DS4 has pretty heatpipes though gigabyte s3 is kinda craptastic though but is allright given its price.
For the $10$-15, difference, you'd rather get the DS4: And ofcourse you get crossfire support and a nice heatpipe + CF support, however the seconds slot runs @ x4, but it's just enough for a physicx card, if it comes availible. But still, de dS3 is a nice board too, however Im not sure if it'll be powerful to run a quad core, since it only has a 3 phase power . still ds4 reaches high fsb: http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=c...pi500fsbci4.jpg
the gigashyte DS3 has 6 phase power with this double thingy which make gigabyte claim that it is 12 phase. ASUS had this whole thing about it(ASUS true 8 phase is better than "gbrand" fake 12 phase) again the ds3 clocks better but if you want crossfire/SLi, well there you go. I think the 4x slot woudl eb better suited to physics though.
Well, according to this review; http://www.maxitmag.com/maxit-reviews/moth...board-review/1/ Also, If you look around the LGA 775 socket, you will notice that this board only has 3 phase power reulation. While it will be enough for Core 2 Duo and the existing line of power hungry netburst based CPUs, it's questionable whether it will be able to cope with quad-core "Kentsfield" CPUs which are scheduled for Q4. So its 3
