Lovely, just found out that I'm getting a new computer. Problem is that I'm horrible with any sort of hardware, apart from the basic stuff that is. I'll probably only be using the computer to play games like CSS, BF2, WC3 and other normal games. I'll also be using it for stuff other stuff like Photoshop, but nothing too straining. So I was wondering what I should get, don't make it too expensive - just modest, hehe. So far, I feel like getting: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6400 Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard Case: XION XION II XON-103 Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 450W Power Supply And now I'm lost for the rest. Any ideas ?
good, so far. Xelink will probably tell you to get a different board, but w/e.. I'm not sure if the PSU that comes with the case is good. memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231041 hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144415 OR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144415 (same price) DVD-Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827106019 graphic card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102059
Nothing's wrong with the mobo, but if you just want to spend a little more, then get the DS4(quad core support, xfire, heatpipe), just a little better. Also don't forget to include these all: DVD Drives Monitor FDD Mouse/keyboard You'll probably already have it, but ok. BTW, make sure the ram is COMPATIBLE, these boards are really specific and don't like every ram. Here's a compatible list http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17636047 Best Ram for DS3/4 is Geil 800Mhz Ultra Low Latencies, but I'm using Corsair XMS2 5400C4 which also does it very well.
Ok, you said nothing to strainuous, so go for the E'6300 instead. You can save yourself a good $40. Processor - $ 181.99 Intel Core 2 Duo E'6300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819115005 Motherboard - $ 142.99 Gigabyte DS-3 (Same as above) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813128012 Memory - $219.99 OCZ Special Ops Edition 2x 1GB DDR2 667 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227118 (You can upgrade within 3 months to a Geforce 8 card using eVGA's step-up program. Google it to learn more about it.) Graphics Card - $ 179.99 eVGA 7900GS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130056 Hard Drive - $ 94.99 Seagate 320GB with PRM technology http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822148140 CD/DVD Drive - $ 30.99 NEC CD/DVD R-RW http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827152070 If you want that case, you're going to need to get a new power supply along with it. Power Supply - $ 67.00 Enhance 500W Blah Blah.. http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=PS-E5150GH&c=fr&show=r Subtotal: $ 917.94 (Does include Power Supply.) Shipping: $ 11.68 (Not including Power Supply because it's from different site.) Mail-in Rebates: eVGA $20 MIR, OCZ $20 MIR Total: $ 929.62 - $ 40 = $ 889.62 Merged Post: Oh yeah, Dev, if you can find a link to a DS4, please tell me. I can't find one for my life.
As I said above, make sure the ram is compatible, mostly OCZ's doesnt on those boards, on some tough. Also here's one for ppl in the uk: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...gabyte_179.html Just make sure the ram you get is compatible and you'll be fine.
There's always that Xeon: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819117074 But thats a different socket type, I dont udnerstand intels so I cant help too much there...
actually that is exactly the baord I woudl ahve recomended if he wants to overclock it. Gigashyte DS3 is one fo the best OCers out tehre, and it costs half as much as anything else compareable. RAM - assuming they don't change ICs form micron d9 then this stuff http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820144152 card either x850XT or GeForce 7600GT(more ro less equal eprformance) I'd lean towards the GT though, more overcloking runs cooelr uses less energy has SM3. also, diablo that XEON is netburst, not Core, don't go near it.
Thanks heaps for all your contributions! I did some research after looking at everything and I feel like getting: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz 2M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive CD/DVD drive: Pioneer Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 5X DVD-RAM DVD-ROM 40X CD-R 32X CD-RW 40X CD-ROM 2M Cache ATAPI 16X DVD±R DVD Burner With 5X DVD-RAM Read RAM: Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Server System Memory Graphics card: XFX PVT71GUQL3 GeForce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card Case: XION XION II XON-103 Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 450W Power Supply PSU: Yet to choose. Are all of these parts good/compatible? Right now I'm just trying to get most of the parts with the best price/performance ratio, though I have added a few exceptions. Though I may have to change a few things around if my computer shoppy thingy doesn't have everything I choose. -_- Question: For my mother board, it says: "Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets." I can't seem to find whether my RAM has the 'JEDEC approved' part of the 1.8V operation or the timing on it. Any ideas ?
Just curious Xelink, it doesn't seem like he will be overclocking (maybe?), so that's why I suggested DDR2-800. Yeah, if he is, I'd go with the Kingston. But uh, ok The 7900GT isn't really worth the extra money. I still suggest the 7900GS. In either case, get a model by eVGA. If you do, that leaves you the opprotunity to upgrade to geforce 8, and you only have to pay the difference between the cards ( $geforce 8 - $7900GS/GT)
@john: I don't think that I'll overclock, but you never know. Ok, 2 questions now. 1. Would the eVGA 256-P2-N584-AR Geforce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card be compatible with my mobo? I was taking a look at the system requirements, but I'm not sure if I understand this part: "An available 6 pin PCI-E power connector (hard drive power dongle to PCI-E 6 pin adapter included with card)" 2. For my mother board, it says: "Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets." I can't seem to find whether my RAM has the 'JEDEC approved' part of the 1.8V operation or the timing for it. Any ideas ?
if you can get a 7900GTO vs. a 7900GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130065 you can flash the GTO to a GTX(or at the leat go into the autooverclock utility via coolbits for about he ame performance) and even without doing that it is only about 3% slower than the GTX at stock... and FYI g80(GeForce 8 series) is out next week so if you want to see soem price cuts... I'd suggest waiting jsut a little bit on the card. and again, assuming that kinston stil uses micron d9 it's the best for the money.it begs for clocking.d9 can easily handle 2.2V for extended periods so you can easily get DDR800 and beyond. i don't know hat ICs the kingston DDR2-800 uses. might be utter carp and the 533 woudl ebbetter not sure. 180$ though is rediculous for a 1GB kits... guaranteed micron d9 http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-3338-p-1689.html
yeah but if he isn\'t going to overclock, wouldn\'t he be getting better preformance from ddr2-800, regardless of the difference in the IC\'s?
