What file type does everyone use? and what is the best type for retaining details? I used to use jpg but recently converted to gif due to allowed to save my files with transparent backgrounds. But now i am looking into png, what does everyone else use and why?
.PNG - Can save lots of details and colours. Crystal Clear. Large filesize. Transparency for firefox users and later versions of Internet Explorer. .JPEG/JPG - Photoshop lets you choose the quality, from 0 to 100. At 100, it's comparable to PNG, but at about half the filesize. 80 works very well too, if you want to minimise filesize but still keep the quality high. .GIF - Small filesize for non-animation. Quality depends on how much colour you have in your image. Works very well for monotones and/or vectors. Never use if you have more than (correct me if I'm wrong) 256 (?) colours or quality will suck.
hm.. PNG-24 - 24bit colour I believe - Probably the highest quality format I use these days however filesizes are like triple or more than JPEG but retains detail JPEG - I only use this for just plain saving images off net -Low filesizes and has fairly good detail - Most common filetype GIF - Use it for animation and simple 3D text like avvy as its the only form most of the boards support and has a low filesize - Not very great quality [pixelates/blotchy] but decent enough TIFF/TARGA - C4D stuff that I make come in this format for removing BG = Transparency BMP - Apart from the quality it has a frigging huge filesize that gobbles up space [Made by MS] No reason to use it really Thats about it from me DarkStar
