    Well, I just bought a laptop.

    HP Pavilion dv9000t customizable Notebook PC

    * Genuine Windows XP Media Center
    * Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5600 (1.83 GHz)
    * 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
    * 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7600
    * 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
    * 100 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive

    This was a big investment for me, about 1700 dollars. ( may not seem like alot but I'm 15 and only make 6.35 :rolleyes: ) Therefore, I want to protect this the best that I can. What are you're reccomendations on programs to use for anti virus etc.

    Also, I have a wireless network and am not quite sure on how to secure it, and I have some "shifty" neighbors that might be stealing my internet currently. ( I live in a townhouse so they are really close )

    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    To secure the wireless network (assuming you have a linksys router):
    Go to 192.168.1.1
    Login with your username and password that you should know (default admin :: admin)
    Go to Wireless
    Next go to one of the sub-selections and hit "Wireless Security"
    Change disabled to "WPA Pre-shared Key", then i chose TKIP for the algoithm (doesn't matter too much)
    Then choose the Key you want and hit "Save"

    for AV don't worry too much, you can always reinstall windows, its no big deal, though if you want to be extra careful, just check the pinned threads.

    I like NOD32 for antivirus. It uses few resources and catches everything I encounter.

    Just dont use norton or mcafee they are huge programs that will severly slow down your computer.
